Good luck hitting those speeds with the wind-that-refuses-to-die we’ve been having. Course if you manage to snag a tail wind it is great fun.
Tail wind westbound on the W&OD? Is there REALLY such a thing?

LOL – I knew there were some tough (and very funny) guys out there. I admit it – I’m a wimp. My fingers and toes are still cold!! I hope to warm up by Friday.
You’re not the only one. I’ve been in pretty much full-on winter gear last few mornings. Heck with cold!

It looks like they are shoring up the embankments at a couple of different points along the WOD between Vienna and Hunter Mill rd. At this point they are detouring riders down onto the unpaved trail that runs parallel to the WOD at that point. This morning’s detour was only a couple hundred yards. Just a “heads up” that’s all
Yeah, they’re trying to fix those 4 spots that are pretty much sliding into the creek.

ParticipantCan’t help you with the route, but 29 between Manassas and Culpeper is some high speed road. Some decent wide shoulder but some narrow too with screwy sight lines and crap whizzing by at 70mph. You’re a better man than I if you do that one..

I’ve been known to look closely at locked bikes to admire them. Maybe he was just a bike freak like us.
Something about this just reeks of TMI

Thanks for all of the advice. I wasn’t aware that there is more than one rack style out there (only one style is shown on WMATA’s website the last time I looked).
Actually there’s three styles now. I know a bunch of FFX Connector busses are sporting fancy three bike racks

I was imagining someone trying to hoist Tim on to their back and ride off to work. :p
I’ve seen pictures, he has to run around in the shower just to get wet

I’ve done it on plenty of crowded buses. I just stay near the front for the whole ride (I rarely get a seat). I’ve gotten plenty of looks from people when I squeeze to the side to allow others to go further back, but the drivers have always gotten it. Then I exit through the front door and remind the driver that I’ll be getting the bike. Never had a problem.
Exactly what I do. Never had an issue. If my bike is the only bike on the rack I also always make sure to fold it back up when I take the bike off.

How does it calculate the percentage? Percentage of what? Percentage of your commutes this week that you completed by bike?
Does it omit days you didn’t go to work? (E.g., this week I went to the office on only two days, but I bicycle commuted both days — does that equal 40% or 100%?).
If you still need a team member I will send you a message. I am hitting about 78% bike commuting so far for 2012.

As part of your profile I think you pick your workdays. From there, it takes the # of trips versus the # of potential workdays from your profile to get to the percentage. I think it’s going to have issues with any of us that don’t necessarily work a set in stone schedule (I have rarely used telecommute options that would skew it myself)

My commute options are 25 mi one way from FFX to the Navy Yard, or take the bus to the Pentagon and ride 6.2 mi each way to the Navy Yard. I usually ride the entire 25 once or twice a week. I will need to step it up to carry my weight in this group. I will keep the # of trips and % high though.
If we don’t make it we don’t make it. Seriously, even if we do win, it’s not like any of us aren’t going to miss the awards ceremony!

I’d trust your instincts – if he seemed to be paying particular attention to the locks, then it is likely he was “shopping.”
+1. I’d say trust your instincts also.

But we are # 1
For now. Some people laid down some sick miles last year.
Looks like it sorted out:
