On January 12, 1966, ABC premiered its Batman television series, starring Adam West as the caped crusader and Burt Ward as Robin.
Happy hunting!

Well, the winged bat was hard to find for me today, but how about a National(s) team that uses a bat?

Well, he has ‘wings’ and he can fly right? I give you the plane named DUMBO!

1/10/21 – Nut
In my research, George Washington Carver may have been born on January 10 (or January 1), 1864, but other sources say he may have been sometime in June also. He’s probably most well known for his work with peanuts, but I thought it would be tough to find “peanut”, so I’m shortening it to “nut”. Happy Hunting!

Today’s photo is of beechnuts, from the beech tree (remember Beech-nut Fruit Stripe gum?). The beech tree – Fagus Grandifolia – is one of the few trees that are easy to identify in the wintertime. The first thing one notices is the very smooth bark, that people love to carve their initials in. The beech tree, also like the oak tree, is one of the few deciduous trees to retain their leaves throughout the winter, waiting for the new spring’s growth to push them off. And finally, beech twigs have these sharp little points of new growth. These three things (smooth bark, winter leaves, and new growth on twigs) make it easy to ID in the winter. For your educational enjoyment, I have included photos of these as well. You’re welcome!

OK, not sure if I got this right, and I didn’t realize I needed a selfie WITH the bike WITH a product, etc. I’ve got the trike outside the restaurant, and the lovely food we got (at the socially distant outdoor dining with patio heaters) – will that be enough?

1/8/21 – Bell (but not on a bike) OR an Elvis
January 8 is Elvis Presley’s birthday. What were at the bottom of his jumpsuits? Bells! Post a pic of a bell that isn’t on a bike OR an Elvis you spot on your ride (just 1 pic please). Happy hunting!
Josh – the only acceptable answer from you (and only you) is the Liberty Bell since you left us to go to Philly
1/8/21 – Bell or Elvis
Well, I remembered an Elvis gingerbread decoration that a neighbor had a Christmas, so I went back to see if it was still out and alas, it was not! Sigh. So I was therefore relegated to find an actual bell. I went to THREE churches, and NO BELLS! I should have cycled over to the Catholic church, but I had no time. I noticed bells on the St. Thomas Moore church from the window while at my PT appointment. But I DID manage to find some Christmas bells that hadn’t been put away with, so I went with those, and those red bells are my entry. I did, however, go back and find my Elvis gingerbread man from an old photo just so you could see it and enjoy it. So, the bells are are my entry, not the Elvis gingerbread, which is just for fun.

On January 7, 1610, Galileo discovered 3 of the moons of Jupiter. Creative entries encouraged, but if your photo of your “moon” is not apparent, please explain. Happy hunting!
PS – no derrieres. This is a family friendly hunt!

This is a house right next to the metal rooster house (which I posted on “bird” day) in that Arlington Heights neighborhood. This one still has the original quaint shutters with the crescent moon cutout.

Not only is it National Bean Day, it’s Rowan Atkinson’s (aka Mr Bean) birthday! Small business definitely means no Chipotle, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Baja Fresh. Again, it’d be cool if it’s a place you actually like – and if you’d want to – explain why.
Please remember in your posts to either reply/quote this or write the date and what the hunted object is

This place is a little Hole-in-the-Wall in Lyon Park off Washington Blvd in Arlington. They have the BEST pupusas, one type of which has beans. Yummy!

PARKFINDER Pointless Prize
Back by popular demand, I will sponsor a ParkFinder Pointless Prize. There will be at least two categories:
– Person that visits the most parks
– Person with the most average miles per parkPer Dictionary.com a Park is defined as “an area of land, usually in a largely natural state, for the enjoyment of the public, having facilities for rest and recreation, often owned, set apart, and managed by a city, state, or nation”.
Therefore, it must be a public park. It can be a local, state or national park. The word Park must be in the sign (last year I came upon a few parks that did not have a sign) and it must be the kind of park used for recreation. (for example, no cemeteries, parking lots, businesses with park in their name, or neighborhood names unless it is a park in the neighborhood with the same name.) You all know the kind of park I am looking for for the game.
You can only get credit for one park per ride and you cannot repeat any park during the game. You must take a picture of your bike with the park sign and then post it in your Strava feed. Be sure tag your ride with #Parkfinder in the title so it can be counted the computer wizards.
Last year’s winners were Matt W, Kilgore T, and Alan A. Since we did not have an ending Happy Hour we still need to find each other so I can give you your prize. You can also send me a private message with your address and I can mail it to you.

Participant#FSwormhole – The Virginia Park/Flowers Addition Wormhole
This wormhole is located between 5th St. South and South Garfield St. in Arlington, VA. So named because those were the original names of the parcels on the 1940 Arlington map (which I’ve also included). Today this neighborhood is called Arlington Heights. This paved path isn’t very long, but it is a nice mini-shortcut when trying to get from Fillmore St. to the neighborhood interior.
