Oh Boy have I been looking for this! I’m hoping to be able to do the ride soon myself and this is route guidance gold right here
The GAP was recently finished (so there are no longer any detours) which is nice.
A couple variations from the GAP + C&O that we did (which are tracked in the strava rides): On day 3 we took the Western Maryland Rail Trail (http://www.westernmarylandrailtrail.org/WMRT/) for about 20 miles which was a great relief from the C&O. The WMRT is very smooth pavement and runs parallel to the C&O. On day 4 we took the CCT the last couple miles into Georgetown as our butts were glad to be done with the C&O (if I did it again I think I’d split up the C&O into 3 days instead of 2).
I’ll try to do a longer trip write up with more detail later.

Amazing! And more amazing?
Moving Time: 08:19:34
Device: Strava iPhone AppThat’s good battery life!
I had an external USB battery pack that could recharge the phone a few times while riding. Definitely a good purchase.

ParticipantMaybe a seat post clamp/collar to attach halfway up your seat post with the WeeHoo bushing above it? The clamp below comes in a 28.6mm size. That is still a hair larger than 1 1/8″ but hopefully it could be tightened up enough so that it doesn’t slip. Less than $6 shipped too.

ParticipantYou complete me.
And you sound potentially like a spam bot… if not, welcome!

ParticipantFun ride today, thanks for putting it together. My daughter and I will definitely be back for future rides. I snapped a couple photos but sadly no group shots:

ParticipantWhoops, didn’t realize that thread was at the top of the discussion again. Mods, feel free to delete this thread.

ParticipantSo who’s riding this year? Just got my email saying I’m part of the red group.
Also, what is the best way to get to NYC without a car? I know there are certain Amtrak trains that allow bikes, though I haven’t researched enough to find out if the line to NYC allows them.

I mainly ride a green 70s Fuji Gran Tourer. You may occasionally see me commuting from Arlington to Dupont on a CaBi. Soon, you may see me carting my 1 year old daughter around on a Cetma or Bullet after I finally decide what kind of kid carrier I want. I like long walks on the beach and puppies.

I’ve got a healthy appetite for dangerous behavior, but I’ve hit ~60mph descending on the road bike and think thats about my limit.
I once hit ~46 mph going down a big hill and it felt plenty dangerous to me. The only reason I even know the speed the driver behind me told me so at the stop light at the bottom. He said, “Do you know how fast you were going?” and I thought he was angry but then he said, “46 miles per hour!” with more of a “wow, I’m impressed” tone and smile.
Haven’t gone that fast since.

I love that tunnel!
Also, the stepping stones are good for the deeper crossings:

I think I’m talking about the Quincy – right where that car that appears to be in the cycle track is. The single bollard would be in front of that car.
You’re absolutely right. Saw that single bollard this morning.

ParticipantIf the questions for every reply are kept, can they be moved so they are either directly above or next to the “Submit Reply” button? I think a user is more likely to fill it out on the first attempt that way instead of hitting submit and then remembering about the question after an error.
