Perhaps this thread and this strava route from said thread might help?
Annapolis to DC isn’t the greatest ride. The River Trails is gorgeous.
There are parts of that strava route that I’d avoid. I’d consider skipping the stretch of 450 from Race Track Rd to MD-3. Instead, I’d cross the Patuxent river via Governors Bridge Road. I’d also go further north along 197 and head to Beltsville, rather than take 450 to Good Luck Road. Good Luck isn’t horrible, but a lower stress option is coming from the north.

Sounds like someone needs to figure out what agency maintains this trail, and talk to that agency about removing these.
My thoughts are the MNCPPC.

Went past these on Saturday with a large group and had a conversation about them being quite possibly the worst bollards of all time. I saw bikedavid wipe out on the extra slanty one during a doughnut ride. I have the power to fix them if someone will lend me an F-350 and a chain. I’ll supply the asphalt soft patch.
Considering they are 9-inch solid concrete, not sure that’d even be enough. Probably rebar reinforced as well. I’m tempted to go rent a concrete saw from Home Depot….

I just don’t understand why we can’t use standard traffic lights for trail crossings.
I’m with Judd. Pedestrian Activated stop-lights generally work fantastic for things like this. So much less confusing…. I can somewhat understand the want for flashing yellow to indicate that drivers should remain cautious, but as Bobco stated, driver confusion leads to unpredictable behaviour. Unpredictable in a 4000 lbs weapon is not a good thing….

ParticipantI am so sorry this happened to you! Please go to the hospital and get properly assessed right away! There are potential problems that don’t show up until days later that could easily be determined by xrays and the works. I would also consider contacting someone like Bruce Demming (DC Bike Lawyer). And unfortunately, it’s also time for a new helmet. It did it’s job, potentially saved your life, but it’s done.

eBikes are much more common around here (Germany). I’m routinely passed by senior riders making little effort on heavy city style bikes. Oh wait, that’s just ’cause I’m getting old and slow.
Then there is this Renault, about the same size as the ELF.

Would that vehicle fall into the NEV category (neighbourhood electric vehicle)?

ParticipantYou may wish to explore upgrading to a Shimano 105 setup rather than Ultegra. Yes, it’s not quite AS nice, and it’s a little heavier, than today’s Ultegra, but you’ll probably find that it performs better than your older Ultegra system. On top of that, replacing worn out parts (chain, cassette, etc.) will be cheaper in the future than with Ultegra.

ParticipantI’m very surprised to see that they’re allowing general public access that close (literally touching) heavy construction equipment. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen……

We are not sharks. We do not die if we slow down or, heavens forfend, stop. Also, bells.
I may not be a shark, but if I stop swimming, I too will drown!

I didn’t see this happen, but the runner said the driver intentionally swerve to hit him.
The part where you state “intentional”, pending evidence, can actually be upgraded from hit-and-run to assault with a deadly weapon. It’s not just a lack of value for human life, it’s actually contempt towards it.

ParticipantSQUIRREL!!
On my way back north after stopping at the College Park City Hall/UMD Pit Stop for the amazingly awesome Bike to Work Day, SQUIRREL! Sorry, heading north along the trolley trail, a squirrel decided it liked my bike. It ran underneath the bottom bracket from my right as I was going by and ended up getting kicked in the head from my left foot. Missed connected because I turned around and it was completely fine (I know that from the half second glance) and no squirrel guts in my spokes. SQUIRREL!

ParticipantSo this was reported 8 days ago, and they’re finally getting around to resolving this absolutely horrible diversion scenario. Nice response time there County.

Thank you to the two cyclists who complimented me this morning on my goggles and crank motor. Reading to my toddler last night I reassured her like Willow I go slow but I use a bicycle bell instead of loud horns.
Just don’t end up this like Willow
