Especially in that section, with the wall so close to, and sometimes impinging on, the trail.

Me: Going northbound on Ohio Dr. approaching a red light at the intersection of Maine Ave.
You: White car trying to cut me off, causing me to swerve to avoid contact but getting to the light before you
Me: Sensing an aggressive driver and based on past experience of aggressive drivers trying to squeeze by when the light turns green, starts to roll when the cross light turns red but before our light turns green in order to get some distance from said aggressive driver
You: Revealing yourself to be part of an unknown federal agency, uses your loud speaker to tell me to follow traffic laws (after violating DC’s three foot law and almost hitting me before).
You: Then going well over the 15 mph speed limit on Jefferson Dr and not signaling your left turn on 3rd St.Not really familiar with the intersection, but was there a protected pedestrian walk signal (with delayed traffic signal)? Because it’s now legal in DC to start forward motion on your bike as soon as the pedestrian signal activates instead of waiting for the green. Just FYI.

ParticipantAlso, where is the air leaking out of? Is it near the valve base? Maybe the valve hole has a burr?
The primary reason to find the hole in the tube (fingers & ears, soap & water, etc.) isn’t to patch the tube, but to find out what’s causing the hole.
[Edit: oops, looks like you’re on top of it already.]

I’d be jumping too with so many sharks in the water.

ParticipantI’ll second the recommendation for the cygolite expilions. Like most inexpensive lights, they output a round beam pattern. I find that the lowest setting works pretty well in clear weather, so I usually keep it there. I put one mount on the helmet and one on the handlebars. When there are oncoming riders/pedestrians, I can turn my head off the trail or push the light more toward the ground as needed so as not to blind them.
The charging and battery swap capabilities are some of the best out there.
I’ve replaced a couple lost/stolen ones over the years and buy whatever current model appears to be at the right place on the lumen/price curve.

One of my fellow bike commuters in my agency sent out an email yesterday detailing his un-missed connection.
[story of rear-end collision]
Oh man. Besides trying to be as visible as possible (clothing, lights, lane placement), getting hit from directly behind you is just one of those things that’s plain out of your hands.
Send him healing well wishes from the forum.

Participant!
I misread that as “without bikinis.”

I’m optimistic for a clear-trail ride home. It was looking like it was gonna be sticking there for a bit, but now it just looks really wet (out here in Reston). Drove by the trail along 7100 at lunchtime and that trail was still black, so am hoping W&OD looks similar.
Doh. I blew it. Darn.
I didn’t have the studs on and rule #1 is no more fractures (at least for the next 8-ish years), so was concerned about ice/slush on the way back. Maybe I’ll put the studs back on tonight so I can get the ride in tomorrow.

Always have a stock of tonic at home.
Sorry that I didn’t remember you when we met. Old head injuries sometimes impair my ability to remember people that I only see occasionally. Nice to see the dummy on the ride.
I ride the dummy for anything less than a century (that doesn’t require drafting). It’s been on the Karras Loop for RAGBRAI once…that was a long (and hot) day.
But heck, it ain’t no penny farthing! That thing was a beaut.
Anyway, I didn’t mean to sound prickly about recognition.
There’s kind of a running joke between Erin and I about me being your stalker ( a joke, I said!) because I’m constantly talking about your posts/achievements/philosophies (because they are so damn posiawesometive).
I like having bike heroes. Seriously. You’re up there along with Nelle and Greg and a few other cyclists I have deep respect for due to their good works.

ParticipantWhat, no tonic?
PS – thanks for working the VASA ride rest stop Saturday.
Erin and I made it back to HoS just great, probably the last of the vasaloppet route riders to return, and were only slightly cursing the hills! I then entitlement-ate two meals at the marina. Probably shouldn’t continue doing that as I up my mileage this year…

ParticipantClearly, they moved the stop to be closer to my office at the Sunrise Valley and W&OD intersection. So, blame me this time!

ParticipantMe: Running an hour late commuting west on the Custis Trail by Lyon Village.
You: a flash of brightly colored clothes and bike, white rimmed sunglasses and a smile riding the other way.
Me: several-second delayed reaction: oh, is that Dirt? “Morning!” If not, still…”Morning!” -
