Got on the bike, felt great for about 3 minutes. As I cruised onto Trollheim I noticed a gentleman adjusting his handlebars right before the dogleg… it just didn’t click. I went down just where he had a few minutes before. Amazing, years of commuting through that section well aware of the many forum members that have given blood and bone as an annual sacrifice and my number finally comes up. So it’s raspberry season on my body.. hip is pretty ugly…. wrist is really really sore! Still made it to Cafe Kindred though for some sympathy and awesome coffee. I hate wood!

    Heal quickly, Dickie

Well I got my knee scooter today. Now that’s what the medical professionals call it, but we all know what it really is…..a tricycle!!!!! :D And yes, I sometimes use it that way around the apartment, esp when I’m going to the fridge (keeps me at shelf level).

I’m thinking of putting blinkies and a bell on it.

For the record, this thing actually gives quite a workout because you are supporting so much of your weight with your thigh muscle. It would also help a lot if the t-bar were curved towards the user so as to be more ergonomic. Oh yeah, and I’d like some shocks and bigger wheels too.

Do they come with electric motors for climbing hills?

    Damn boomer,

That is way more awful than what I have. Glad you were so quick thinking; I don’t think I would have been. My experience with surgical incisions is that they are darn difficult to keep germ free. Tegaderm is pretty awesome if you can start using it right away to keep the bad bugs at bay. Now if the bad bugs are inside you….

Bad bugs are already inside me, so the doc is nuking my system with a combo of cephalexin and sulfamethoxazole-tmp. Hopefully I will emerge from this bulletproof (and short a 9-lifer).

Ouch! May you heal fully and quickly.
If it is of any consolation, I recently cut an artery in my leg while taking out the recycling, and almost bled out. Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to put a tourniquet on my leg, and my cell phone to dial 911. The ER doc had to stitch my artery back together, and then stitch close my wound. I just got the stitches removed today, only to discover that I have an infection (most likely staph and/or streph from said ER). I’m now on a cocktail of antibiotics and have no idea of when I will be able to hammer again. However, a friend lent me their folding bike, which enables me to use MetroRail and get to/fro work, so at least I am still cycling!

I regularly ride west from DC to WOD mile marker 8.0 in the dark after 9pm and have never been hassled or asked to get off the trail by any authority.

However, I have been blinded by the light of many other cyclists riding toward me with high beam blazing. So please be courteous and click down to low beams, or better yet, cover your light beam with your hand, so that you do not blind any oncoming cyclists or walkers out after dark.

I biked over but you all were inside and I didn’t have a bike lock. :-(

Sorry to have missed you; by the time I tried to track you down, you were already into your commute home. Pity is that there were several spare locks among the group, and we would’ve gladly secured your bike.

I have a set of Mavic Kysrium Elites that have over 6500 miles on them without even a loose spoke yet that I bought on sale from Performance Bike Shop for under $500, three riding seasons ago. They even survived Freezing Saddles. Best value and bullet proof set of commuting wheels that I ever had on a roadie (Trek Madone 5.2 and Scattante CFR1 before that). I switch them out for a set of Easton carbon wheels (EC90) for when I climb hills or do centuries that I bought off of Craigslist for $750, but had to rebuild the rear hub (which Easton sent me the rebuild kit for free under warranty even though I was not the original owner).

Turns out that I won’t be able to ride although I already registered:( Hope that you all have a great ride, and set some KOMs/QOMs
