WOD from 6.0-8.5 was fine on 40s. No need at all for studs. Traction was fine on both the pavement and the gravel (better on the gravel). A few spots of ice, especially in the shady area by the tennis courts just east of Shreve, but nothing that was a big deal.

It was mostly icy ruts of death today. I bailed out to side streets.

W&OD mid-afternoon – looked pretty much like this the whole way from mm5.0-9.0. No issues on 40s. Might get nasty tonight/tomorrow with refreeze – it was starting to get pretty slushy in a few spots.

Spent the weekend hitting fireroads in the Elizabeth Furnace area. What a beautiful few days to unplug and spend some time in the woods.

I rode from Vienna Community Center to West St. tonight (6:30-7pm). It was all easily passable on 32s – basically the same conditions as the photo I posted this morning – maybe a little more bare pavement. No significant melting today, so no real ruts. Hit a few small ice patches – had one minor spin out on the climb up to Virginia Lane – but I never had to put a foot down. The transition from Virginia back to the WOD is a bit hairy – take it slow there. There’s not a significant amount of bare pavement when you turn back onto the trail off of Virginia. Same thing after crossing Shreve.

But should be just fine, overall, in the morning.
