ParticipantVERY Annoying.
I know it’s the 20th anniversary for the museum – but I’m not a Nazi. They could let bikes through…I had to go up and around the white house to get to the NoMA via K st and hit every light
.
Do I have to go the same way to get home?

ParticipantCrap I left work early and didn’t see this

ParticipantAnybody want to start a group from Shirlington to NoMA?

ParticipantMy wife said – don’t ride the lightning. So I drove. From Shirlington to NoMA, Biking takes 35 minutes, driving in traffic takes 45. Even with the shower I take before I go into work it’s dead even.

ParticipantLast week – 2 or 3 bikers and a few runners.
This week I’m waiting for oncoming traffic, then weaving around as politely as possible, rinse, repeat…

ParticipantNo splashguard on that bike. When it rains I ride the bike in my avatar pic – a 1986 Centurion Le Mans that has fenders on it.
My Kestrel is black with white lettering. I was in my rain jacket this morning to head off the wind – which worked out quite well! I just had to add a t-shirt to my normal long-sleeve t-shirt.

ParticipantTwo kids. One bike. You can actually interact with them on one of these. I use a trailer now, but I feel like I’m so far away from them…

ParticipantIt would be OK if they would straighten out the double 90s here:
38.896720, -77.067291
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=38.896731,-77.067299We could then merge with traffic until we get to the bridge that goes over the GW parkway.

ParticipantIf we have to point in the direction we’re about to shoot a snot rocket, they should warn us before they throw their cigarette out the window…
I’ve picked up a few awkward conversations coming through car speakers haha.

ParticipantYou: Eastbound on the custis this morning on a black, blue, and white pinarello (nice!)
Me: Also eastbound on a black kestrel
You were super nice, safe, and courteous with your passes this morning. You passed me after the bridge that goes over the exit on 66, but I kept up with you until you turned, presumably to take the west side of the key bridge into the city. You waited to pass when there was oncoming traffic. You called all your passes. And you were nice about it. I thought about coming alongside to chat, but there was too much traffic.
Thank you!

ParticipantI’m trying to get onto the MVT from there most of the time – but when I do need to get into DC I take the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge.
I really just wanted this thread to be about logging parts of our commutes where we frequently have run-ins with cars – and possibly used ffod
!

ParticipantI did notice a significant jump in the amount of commuters I saw out this morning. There was even a ‘traffic jam’ on the custis trail – awesome.
February 19, 2013 at 4:28 pm in reply to: How many miles are each of you commuting to and from work and how long does it take? #962852birddog
ParticipantI had been doing 5.5-6 miles in 20 minutes on my steel bike, but now I’m going the long way regularly and racking up 12.5 miles in 40 minutes on a new bike. BUT I still ride my old bike if it’s raining.
