ParticipantThe wiki format lends itself well to describing things that are relatively static, so a few other categories/pages that I think could be worth adding:
List of local bike shops – could include brands they carry, location/hrs, etc.
List of coffee shops
List of local bike racing teams – Bikenetic, NCVC, etc.
List of major bike rides/races – dates change year to year, but basic description doesn’t (DCCX, Reston Century, Air Force Ride, Kill Bill, Wednesday Night Crystal City races, etc.)Bilsko
ParticipantWeather data will always be difficult to get right; not sure how you have the API setup, but I imagine that you query the hourly reported temperature for the same GIS-derived location as the ride-start? So if I start my ride at home in DC, you’ll pass that lat/long combo along to wunderground, which will identify the closest monitoring station and then return the temp at ride start…
One issue is that the weather station might not be reflective of my actual location (but its probably good enough for the purposes of this competition)
Another issue is if I have a long ride that takes me to locations that end up being colder than my starting point, then I don’t get to capture the benefit for my bafs points calculation.
(ie, if I ride from DC – relatively warm due to heat-island effect – out to Sugarloaf, I might end up with a nice 5-10F drop in temperature. That would make a pretty big difference in the calculation – although it appears that the distance vs temp mechanism would negate the effect of me riding really far to a colder location.Perhaps introducing a POI into your Garmin/Strava recording for the midpoint of a long ride that would capture the location where it was colder, and have the API gather both locations and report wunderground readings for both…? (ie. it captures a 34F temp at my starting location, then it also gets a 27F temp at Sugarloaf and performs a calculation based on both readings).
Clearly not something to implement this year, but worth consideration for future years.

ParticipantI’m registered and will be riding the fixed gear CX setup. Tires will be either Clement MSO (40s) or WTB Nanos if its really mucked up. 39×17 gearing will mean a bit of walking on climbs and more technical sections (same as for Hilly Billy Roubaix last year). Looking forward to it!

ParticipantTremendous work!
I’m surprised that NPSGWMP park police didn’t stop you and issue a citation – seriously, its exactly the kind of thing they would do.
WABA alerted me to the fact that they have spoken with NPS about the MVT plowing issue and NPS is planning to release a trail maintenance plan in the spring which should include information on how they plan to address MVT plowing in years to come.

What about across the street?
Please don’t take this the wrong way…but there is not a single place to lock up a bike securely in the entire picture. The *only* thing I would consider is my Fughedaboudit chain around one of the light poles and even that probably wouldn’t make it all the way around pole and frame. There are no parking signs skinny enough for a U-Lock (no parking meters either). You could consider locking up to one of the benches facing the fountain, but that’d be pretty rude.
You could get a skinny U-Lock through the hoop at the top of the garbage can, but that’s both rude and gross. There are a handful of parking signs skinny enough to lock up to on the North side of the street, but unless you’re playing snuggle-bikes, the best you’ll do is 2 bikes per pole.

Hello Crazy Winter Bicyclists:
If you are planning to attend the happy hour, even briefly, or if you think there is a good chance you might, please RSVP as soon as you can using this thread.

In case my earlier msg wasn’t clear – I do plan to attend.

ParticipantLooked back through the thread, but didn’t see if anything had been resolved as far as bike parking goes.
There are *not* a lot of options for locking up nearby…
U-racks in front of the movie theater a block away, some posts and parking signs, and a garage next door, but no idea if it has dedicated bike parking and if it could accommodate a large number of bikes.
And you’ll want to be sure to lock up well – Georgetown definitely has more than its share of bike theft.

So, a Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) is when the walk signal turns red before the green light for traffic in the same direction.
LPI is when walk signal turns *white* before the green… no?

Sorry for the slow reply guys- I forgot to subscribe to my own thread. I *think* that it’s sold but if they don’t pick it up on Monday I’ll let you know.
Bilsko- I’d bet that your daughter is too tall, my son graduated to a 16″ bike at about that height on his 4th birthday.
OK – No worries!
