Personally, I’ve never been interested in the least in e-bikes. Until now

My experience has been that there will be lines even at 2 pm when they open up… Enjoy the ride. It is a blast!

Thanks for the head’s up – I may hold off until 2:30 or so. It’ll be a bit of work schedule / radar-watching / need-to-get-home-by decsion making.

No to hijack but how bad would the lines be if I picked up my packet Sunday at 6 am?

I’m riding over there in a bit (hoping to get there right around 2PM to avoid lines). Will try to report on MVT trail status. (That will probably be via Twitter: @Bilsko)

Next time we need people stationed at each stop sign, yelling at them to put a foot down.

So I came up on the Ohio Drive / Buckeye Drive intersection (on the river side) and they were approaching from the opposite direction, just finishing their lap. In unison, they all lifted their hands to indicate a right turn and then…… BLEW THROUGH THE STOP SIGN. All 7 of ’em.

Somebody brewed a rich cup of irony this morning.

    Pewp :(

And if you live in the District and aren’t sure about whether or not where you live normally floods, the DC Govt (and FEMA) will help you out with this Google Earth Map (KML file – will require Google Earth or other mapping software to open).

Aaargh. I’ll be out of town on the 20th – Circa’s pretty good and has a decent beer list IIRC. Bike parking isn’t the best around there (be smart about locking up – I’ve had a bike stolen on the GW campus in the past), but depending on where you lock up, and whether or not you’re at the outside bar, you may be able to keep an eye on things.

Wow – the elevation data is all kinds of weird for that ride. The same location in Crystal City (the ride start) keeps getting lower and lower on subsequent laps. Its kind of like Crystal City is sinking into the Potomac and Strava is giving you a realtime topographic record of it.

Either that, or I just cant read an elevation profile.

got it. I know its not a competitive ride (beyond the personal achievement aspect), but it seems a bit odd to organize it that way.

Is the bad smell in the area of the Georgetown tunnel? That area always has a raunchy odor to me, but I thought that was mostly rotting stuff in the storm drains. Maybe I’m wrong though. I can’t say I ever smelled any sewage up by Fletcher’s.

Kind of my experience too (not so bad at Fletchers…awful down by the Foundry Branch Valley Park Tunnel -AKA Georgetown tunnel). I think part of the problem there is the combined sewer overflow (where that waterfall is right uptrail from the tunnel, where frequently the CCT homeless set up camp).

A couple of years ago, there was a dead deer that spent a few weeks rotting right beside the entrance to the tunnel (on the trail side). I put in several requests to NPS and 311 before they came and took it away. I never did figure out how it came to die there…kind of like it fell off the C&O overpass above the tunnel entrance, broke something, and just died right there. Or it just died of more natural causes right there. Either way morbid. and stinky.

Ostensibly, two riders could both get to gold via six laps, and one of them would have ridden almost an entire laps-worth of distance less than the other if he/she excluded that portion of the circuit….right?

OSTENSIBLY? Are you kidding me? Jesus, Bilsko, that’s almost as bad as begrimed.

Because the route is repeated, you have the option of skipping some of the hill components. The hill segment is off Route 110 and then rejoins 110 at the same point.

This is one aspect that I don’t quite understand -if an entire mile or two portion of the ride is optional, then does that impact the completion of the Gold/Silver/Bronze categories? Or do you have to ride that section (and be tracked with their device) to prove that you did the entire circuit?

Ostensibly, two riders could both get to gold via six laps, and one of them would have ridden almost an entire laps-worth of distance less than the other if he/she excluded that portion of the circuit….right?
