ParticipantTHE COMPETITION IS HEATING UP…bigredboiler and DCAken are neck and neck. Both have found up to “U” and check out those posts. They are awesome. For those of you moving a little slower, the game is not over when one person gets to “Z” so keep looking. Teaser…I saw a green convertible jaguar parked on my ride today. It must be from the 1980s. Saw a car with Ontario plates (not a van though). I have seen three F100/150 vintage vehicles, all blue and one rusty. There is a doc in our bldg who drives an orange Maserati SUV (why?)…There are a lot of Red Teslas and around here, many have out of state plates. Have fun! That’s the point.

ParticipantDuring “Prohibition” the US Government prohibited ALCOHOL! Per the Constitution Museum website (in Philly–I want to go; never heard of it), The 18th Amendment to the Constitution Passed by Congress December 18, 1917. Ratified January 16, 1919. Section one of the 18th Amendment “After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.”
Well that did not go over so well. It was Repealed by the 21st Amendment, December 5, 1933. In the meantime, many citizens were not happy about being told what to do, so they made their own alcohol. Well, our citizenry continues to balk at government mandates, such as STOP signs. Many motorists consider these items suggestions rather than requirements. Am I right?

Participant1/16/23 MLK Jr Day legacy of MLK–less traffic on the roads during bike commute this morning and tonight due to the holiday marking his bday. Photo of I395 from Seminary Rd overpass pedestrian bridge at rush hour.
Right after his assassInation in 1968, efforts began to create a Federal Holiday in his memory. It took until Reagan signed it into being in 1983 with first celebration of the holiday in 1986. Next year, the Monday Holiday will fall on his actual bday Jan 15.
