The National Bike Summit was too early this year to really make it possible to do a Ride on Washington. This will be the third year, and the third different incarnation of the Ride on Washington. I’m not able to ride it this year, but I’m going to see what I can do to help.
We’ll be happy to host a meet up/feed station at Proteus again. And maybe you can ride with us this time, Dirt!

ParticipantBoth rides are class acts. I’ve ridden the TDC in Howard County, MD twice and it was really well run (well provisioned rest stops, nice staff, good food at the end). Haven’t ridden it since it’s been in Reston. This year TDC is also doing a ride May 18 in Easton (Flat course!). I have a team called the Proteus Herd if anyone wants to join us. I’m riding the century (with my buddy Greenbelt), but most of our team is riding 55 miles. Ben from Proteus will be doing support for the MS ride, so say hi to him if you decide to do that ride!

ParticipantTop tube stickers are $5. Stop by the shop to pick one up, or I can send some to DC with Jeff (Greenbelt). — Laurie

ParticipantProteus will have the SHROW stickers for sale next week ($5). I’ll let you know when we get them. Here’s a preview:

ParticipantDefinitely rinse the bike off! We get a couple of buckets of hot water and rinse the whole bike – be sure to get the drive train. You should also lubricate the chain after it dries.

ParticipantI contacted them today via FB to see if Proteus can help out. They are selling SHROW top tube stickers for $5 as a fundraiser. I’m ordering 20 to start and should have them for sale at the shop by next week. Let me know if anyone wants one! — Laurie

ParticipantSunday was nice – but a bit too windy for me (felt like I was going uphill all the way). Now today was truly awesome. Rode into DC at sunrise (stunning) and home at sunset (even stunning-er). Those rides sandwiched a nice short day at work and checking out the inaugural festivities with the Proteus gang. Under 40 but above freezing. Nothing that a nice wool baselayer can’t handle!

Was looking for a similar solution myself for my new cross bike. The seat wedgie interferes with my rear lights and is a pain to get to. Plus I want to be able to reach my phone easier for amusing picture opportunities. How do you like the Bento? Where did you get it?
Serfas makes a bento that has a magnetic closure. Having crashed due to a velcro fail on my bento, I highly recommend the magnetic closure – easier and more reliable, especially if you’re doing something stupid like trying to put your phone away while riding fast downhill on your road bike….

Hey Liz – no worries. I haven’t had a great week either, but just getting my 10 points in per day…. We’ll make it up! And we’re still doing great — Laurie

We also missed the wind — got downtown by 7:30am. However, I’m going to have to ramble this evening to stay warm — I saw “High of 60 degrees” and dressed for that!
Felt cooler on the way home (just got home a few min ago). Dryer/cooler north wind in my face. Certainly not cold though (even for you, Greenbelt). And no rain at all!

I scored my first QOM today, thanks to Freezing Saddles introducing me to Strava. Watch out, Mr. Kelley, I’m coming after you . . .!
Way to go teammate! And I have to put in some more miles to get the top female spot back (though being tied with you is pretty cool)…. loving this motivation! And the warm weather doesn’t hurt either:)
