Thanks for posting Jeff…. I could have sworn Johnny was about to do “the Robot!”. Are all these items available at the store? I need a good pair or urban knickers.
Some of the clothes are not in the store, but I can order them (mostly Club Ride, but some of the Endura Urban too). I do have a full size run (I think) of the Club Ride Zeal nickers. Let me know what you want, Dickie, and I’ll check! — Laurie

Green, thank you. You’ll have to remind me what kind of whisky- I remember something about Macallan…

ParticipantThis will be the first year (of the 3 that I’ve ridden) that I have to work on bike-to-work day. I’ll ride from Greenbelt to DC, then back to College Park to work! It’s just another good excuse for a ride [think National Bike Challenge
]

ParticipantI’m Laurie. Usually riding my Bianchi Zurigo cross bike – a bike fit to race, but usually loaded down with rack and panniers somewhere between Greenbelt-College Park-DC; or on my Red/White Orbea Volata. I’m often seen riding with the character known as “Greenbelt”

Great job, Jeff and Laurie and Ben, for your help with this effort. I got bogged down with work, so couldn’t meet up as planned. I sure hope the SHROW rider’s effort impressed a legislator or two and caused them to think about this issue. If nothing else, a great tribute to the victims. Thanks to the riders who rode in memory of those no longer with us.
Thanks Rod. We missed you today!

ParticipantWhat a great day – stressful, but great. Thank you Dickie for changing my flat! It’s kinda weird to go from ride leader to back of the pack
But wouldn’t have met up with Bilsko if I hadn’t had the flat, so there you go. Special thanks to the most awesome Greenbelt for getting everything set up. So glad we could support the Sandy Hook folks!

I should amend my post to say that I absolutely think that the best bike is the one that will inspire you to go out and ride. But there’s no reason you can’t accomplish your goals with the bike you have now. You could also look at a new bike like a reward for hitting a certain milestone.
I agree! I’ve met several people who have lost big weight riding (>100#). The key is riding and burning some calories. As long as you’re having fun (and your bike fits well enough that you like to ride it) then you will keep riding, burn more cals, see results, ride more….. Ride harder or just ride more hills to get your heart rate up. That’ll help with the calorie burn and make you stronger. Keep on riding!

ParticipantIs there a “Joe Ordinary” award? That is, the person who came closest to their pre BAFS handicap?

Indeed, the bikes were sold by the time I emailed them. Thanks anyway.
He has been measured now and the fit calculators suggest a frame size of 52 to 53-ish for a road bike. I guess that corresponds to about 18″ for the bikes sized that way.
Thanks for your help!
Liz
So isn’t that roughly your size? So, here’s what you do. Get him a bike that you’d like for yourself (perhaps as a backup)! That way if he grows out of it at some point, you’ve got a new/spare bike!

Final logistics includes setting the route from the shop down to the Capitol? I’d like to join, but getting all the way up to the shop by 10/11 may be tough so if I can link up with the group as it rides in that would be great.
Yep – we’ll get the route posted soon – I know we’re on the other side of town from many riders, so we’re hoping lots of folks join us on the way in.

ParticipantThe SHROW riders need to arrive at the Capitol by 1 PM on Tuesday March 12. We’re waiting on final logistics, but we are planning to leave from Proteus no later than 11 am. They want LOTS of riders to join them, so this would be a great day for a work “sick day.” We’d like riders to start gathering at Proteus around 10 am. We’ll have food (Greenbelt/Jeff is making his famous chocolate chip oatmeal cookies
) I’ll have Greenbelt post a route so folks can meet us on the way if they can’t make the start time. Please join us and help these fine folks out with their cause to promote common sense gun legislation! Spread the word! Thanks — Laurie
