I really liked the disc brakes on the kona rove, but way out of my price range. This is why I’m hunting for a 2013 Jake. In my price range, with disc brakes and good components from what my feeble research suggests! Just need to see if its much less comfy compared to the Volpe.

No 2013 Jakes available right now – but I’ve got one on back order! –Laurie

Good for them! I’ll happily throw in a few dollars, join the ride from Proteus to DC, and help with guiding.

Thanks Rod!

But I had an LCI gig in Alexandria yesterday; we were discouraged from wearing any technical gear when teaching so I had to run through the drills, group ride and return trip home in jeans and I was hating life by the end. Don’t know how he does it.

2 words: Club Ride. The clothes don’t look like technical cycling gear and they make some discreet-ish looking separate chamois (damsel cham for women).

Like last year, we’ll have snacks and drinks for the riders. Greenbelt promises to make his giant chocolate chip oatmeal raisin walnut cookies. We’ll also have PB&J, and perhaps some Feed Zone portables or fried rice from the FZ cookbook. This was an absolutely awesome experience last year, so please consider joining the ride somewhere along the way. Alas, I have to man (woman) the shop so won’t be riding — Laurie

Ben has a dirty mustache.

In case Dickie sees my green mustache on Ben’s bike – It is on loan to Ben since he has more room on his bike than my 49 cm CX bike. And I think it looks great!

What about shortcake bakery? I haven’t been there yet but they open early, have pastries, and bike parking. Being right off the NE Branch on Rhode Island I can’t think of anything more convenient at present. And if they don’t have coffee, perhaps a BYOC scenario by the skatepark (since its springtime :p) while we chat and much on strudels.

The pastries are amazing but the coffee needs work. They have an espresso machine, but it doesn’t work. Nice folks tho, and a great place to meet up.

Conan just looks awkward and unhappy on that bike. It’s hard to look at.

Warm and bright: Endura Gridlock jacket in yellow. I wear mine all winter with an Endura merino wool baselayer. Has a tab on the back for a light.
A great confidence builder is bike to work day, May 17th. There should be a meet up in your area.
Good luck with your commuting!

Some good news for us “northerners” – a Zekes coffee roastery is going in at RI ave and S. Dakota (they have a shop in B’more and sell their fab fresh roasted beans at farmers mkts in the DC area). This will be close to the commuting route for many of us coming into DC from PG and Montgomery county via the NW branch trail – Brookland – Met Branch. Sounds like you have some good coffee shops in SS/takoma, but we have nothing in PG/NE DC (Busboys and poets in Hyattsville doesn’t open till 8am). Here’s hoping for a FMCC in NE!

I am planning to attend.

Anyone riding out from DC want to convoy? I’m at L’Enfant Plaza, but can go out of my way to meet, especially if you know where you’re going.

Jeff and I will be coming from Penns Ave by the Newseum. We can meet you on our way. What time are you heading over? — Laurie
