What about a pre-telework ride for breakfast?

TOOLCAT
The video does not show it, but did the car coming up the ramp, whilst turning left, clip the second TOOLCAT as it crossed the IoD against the light?

No hydration. I thinking introducing cold liquids would be inadvisable, and any liquids would be cold quickly.
This cold dry air parches me. I put hot tap water (all 100 oz.) in the Camelback this am, and let the tube drain after drinking so it would not freeze up. Worked great, and the water was still lukewarm at the end of my commute (after ~50 minutes).

ParticipantOh boy! Not less than 45 MPH all the way down Route 7 through Tysons, Falls Church City, Seven Corners, through to Alexandria! What could possibly go wrong!

Grim indeed.
Speed limits usually define the maximum allowable speed, however, so it is not clear that his bill would have the intended effect except through enforcement by mob rule of car drivers (the penchant for mob rule being another unfortunate characteristic of many of today’s politicians).

ParticipantRegrets.
I’ll be at rehearsal for the Reston Community Orchestra MLK Weekend Concert, which all are welcome to attend at 4:00 Saturday at Reston Community Center, Hunters Woods. I’m principal cellist.

ParticipantI set up the Team 12 Strava club, I think. See if you can join here: https://www.strava.com/clubs/175542.
I am a long-time bike commuter, but first-time BAFS rider. In prior years I gave up the full bike commute during Standard Time riding only to metro. But I so hate riding indoor stationary bikes to try to keep in shape that this year I’m doing the full commute through the winter, ice and snow permitting. I live near Tyson’s Corner and work near L’Enfant Plaza, so I’m mostly on the W&OD, Custis, and MVT.
Since my job involves leading a sizable organization and making lots of decisions, I prefer to let others lead in my leisure activities and to go with the flow.
I would like one of snugglefestival’s headbands, please!

ParticipantI use a Camelback with just water, regular tube, no insulation. Tuesday morning (sleezed it yesterday), I was getting a mouthful of slush with most initial sips, but the whole line did not freeze through my ~50-minute commute. I had room temp water (I fill it the night before), although putting in hot tap water can help. The dry air was making me extremely thirsty so I drank more than usual which helped keep the line mostly clear.
Consider routing the tube so it remains closer to your body, or even putting the whole works under one or more of your layers. To keep the mouthpiece warmer, hold it near your face by running the tube under your helmet strap.

ParticipantFor the second evening in a row, I caused a large flock of geese to take off as I passed them on the MVT without any shouting of bell ringing (things they generally ignore).
Maybe they did not like my MonkeyLights.

But you can take more air into your lungs in the wintertime, right? Maybe offsets it a bit.
Dammit Jim, I’m a Doctor of Economics, not a physician!
But, I would guess that vasoconstriction in the lungs and their resulting decreased efficiency due to low air temperature completely overwhelms any gains from the increase in available oxygen molecules from the higher air density. That and hauling all the heavy winter clothing up the hills. Two days of strong morning tailwinds that in warmer months would get me to work in about 43 minutes ride time did not help me break 46 minutes this week.

ParticipantNo snowflakes, but many fellow cyclists on the Custis at the crack of dawn today (~#63 at the Rosslyn monolith). Seemed like more than the week of Dec. 14-18, my last commutes before Holiday Leave. Freezing Saddles is already heating up, I guess.

A lot of people wait until the end of the day, or even later, to sync their rides. We’re now at 148 riders on the first day. I suspect that at least a few people still haven’t synced.
My rides did not show up until I made them public. If you check the box to make all rides private by default, they don’t appear to show up.

Although if it is in fact up to the standard to which NPS holds trail paving contractors, that would explain a lot about the MVT.

Includes separated pedestrian and cycling trails. Now, if only we could be assured that the ninja joggers would use the pedestrian trail…
