Yes, they will ticket you. There are signs posted on the parkway (mostly in the southern section) banning bikes, and I know of at least one person who got a ticket. They list the prohibition on their website (https://www.nps.gov/gwmp/planyourvisit/mtvernontrail.htm), so I assume they have some enforcement mechanism based on their past ticketing.
Figures. They should just throw in the towel and rename the GWMP I-595.

Rode the northern part of the MVT for the first time since the shutdown has occurred. It wasn’t too bad busyness wise, but I literally saw significantly more people on the MVT than the GW Pkwy, and this was during rush hour. I don’t see any reason why the GW or at least half of it couldn’t be shut down to car traffic and made bike/ped only to open up more space for people to distance while getting exercise and fresh air.
Is it actually illegal for bikes to ride on the GWMP? If not, and it’s really this empty, we might as well go for it.

ParticipantThe bin for glass at Quincy Park is still there this morning.

ParticipantI think the point is that even new or less confident riders can in most cases find decent places to ride without flocking to the W&OD, Custis, 4MRT, or MVT, etc., especially in the current light traffic. This 9-mile ride kept me entirely within 2 miles of my house, involved crossing Rte. 7 only at light-controlled intersections, and didn’t even hit all the neighborhood streets.

ParticipantIf you are on Strava (even free accounts), you can also use the Strava Route Builder feature to plan a ride and load it onto your phone or GPS. It can use the Strava Global Heatmap to string together rides along the most popular routes used by Strava members (turn on “Use Global Heatmap” in the tools menu).
Traffic on all the roads is like Sunday morning before church lets out, so even if your route’s popularity is based on weekend rides, it won’t matter these days.

ParticipantIf you don’t like the Washington Blvd. ramp, from West St. you could take Park St. through Falls Church to Little Falls to Columbia-16th, then go up Sycamore (bike lanes) to Washington Blvd.

ParticipantSince we seem to have settled that the leaderboard is correct, I am ready to award the FS2020 Loopy for Arlington Prizes.
A total of 396 Arlington Loops were completed by 68 Freezing Saddles participants this year, 176 clockwise by 53 riders, and 220 counterclockwise by 44 riders.
For keeping the best balance in life during Freezing Saddles, the prize for Most Matching Loops goes to:
For keeping herself totally wound up during Freezing Saddles, the prize for Most Counterclockwise Loops goes to:
And, by judges decision (and because nobody needs 2 boxes of Froot Loops), for the guy who likes to unwind, the prize for Most Clockwise Loops goes to:
Congratulation to all the winners! PM me to arrange a meet-up if you are running low on cereal. Otherwise, I will present your awards when we eventually have the closing Happy Hour.

Please do so and report back. Actually, you just gave me an idea for an all-purpose vaccine!
I will be starting the experiment tomorrow as the office fitness center, including locker rooms and showers, will be closed in compliance with Mayor Bowser’s order.

Perhaps the coronavirus needs to factored in now. Wonder how that would skew the odds as going to work now can potentially kill you.
I don’t know. If you keep your cycling kit on all day that should help with social distancing at work.

ParticipantThere has been a lot of position changes among 4th, 5th, and 6th places that probably would not have occurred under the old scoring rules.

Still curious about hiccups in the data. The leaderboard shows me with 8 loops, but I think it should be 11.
I checked all 16 segments.My lowest CW segment is CW1 with 4
My lowest CCW segment is CCW8 with 7Thanks.
Given the issues with the leaderboard, I’m going to ask the gurus to do the Loop segment data pull that I’ve used in the past to calculate the winners. I’m hoping the issue is somewhere between the database and the leaderboard.

Another data point:

This ride wasn’t counted for my only loop around Arlington so far during the contest.
Do all 8 segments show up in your segment list for the ride?

There are a few Pointless Prizes on the leaderboard that I don’t see in this thread, such as Billy Goat and Tortoise and Hare — are those off the books this year?
It means no one has yet volunteered to sponsor those prizes.
