Spark Speed at Wednesday Night Spins
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – Crystal City’s Wednesday Night Spins garage bicycle race series returns this March with more competition, adrenaline, and speed. Registration is now open for the popular race series hosted by the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Vornado/Charles E. Smith and Crosshairs Cycling. Due to popular demand, this year’s series includes a Women’s Open Race and a Fixed-Gear Only Finale.
With the unpredictable weather and a quiet local race calendar, March is the perfect time for pre-season training at Wednesday Night Spins. The course is fast and fun for riders of all abilities. Participants in each race category compete for weekly prizes as well as the series title by earning points each week for top finishes.
Those too timid for the saddle can still get in on the fun in the lounge which features a wine and beer garden hosted by the Washington Wine Academy with great race viewing and drinks.
Wednesday Night Spins is also partnering with Bikes for the World and includes a drop off point for donations of bikes and cycling gear. Donations help support cycling programs and transportation solutions across the globe.

ParticipantI plan to be there, along with my special prize for the most Hains Point Laps. If the individual who does the most doesn’t show up at the happy hour, it will go to a representative of the team that does the most. It’s a great prize.
Also, huge thanks to organizers!

My office just banned us from bringing our bikes into the office, so I’m looking for secure bike parking near the ballston mall. Does anyone have suggestions?
I’m looking for something more secure than a u-lock on a regular public rack, but it doesn’t have to be full-on bike cage. I see people riding out of the National Science Foundation building. That would work well for me. Does anyone have an appropriate contact for the building/garage?
Thanks in advance!
Maybe ask VAtoDC what his office plans to do with the lockers they’re getting rid of? If they’re in good order, it seems like someone should be able to re-use them somewhere!

ParticipantSunyata, I’m pretty sure I’ll be coming directly from work, but hope to see you there! Thanks for reminding me to bring something too – Moar cowbell!!!

For more information, visit crystalcity.org.I was really sorry I missed this past Weds, especially with so many friends racing (and winning – Yay Teresa!). Hope to make the next one(s). A couple of pro tips for anyone else planning to go – the garage is always colder than people expect it to be, especially if you’re standing around, so wear or bring extra layers of clothing. Also, bring along some cash for beer, wine, Sol’s pies or pie slices, and/or grilled cheese sandwiches. These races are fun to watch and you’ll probably see a lot of friends there!

ParticipantThe MVT from where it connects with Four Mile Run Trail to the 14th Street Bridge.
This should be easy for NPS as there is good vehicle access from Gravelly point and no wood bridges are involved.
(Also, is someone going to clear the Crystal City connector trail?)

ParticipantThanks for organizing this! I’m in.

ParticipantI just saw this and can do Friday or Saturday. Love Clare and Don’s!

ParticipantAre there any #BAFS or other rides this weekend or coming up that anyone wants to post an invitation to?
Just bumping up this thread as a reminder that we have it.
(In the past, teams have opened most or all of their rides to other BAFS members without much, if any, harm to their standings.)

ParticipantMany thanks to wheels & wings and Team 12 for a very fun gathering last night! Wheels & wings gets major extra kudos for the cyclocross factor in most of her ride to the event.

ParticipantI hope to be there!
February 1, 2016 at 9:18 pm in reply to: February 2016 Road and Trail Conditions – Is there still snow/ice out there? #1046826Arlingtonrider
ParticipantI was really hoping to ride a bikeshare bike home tonight, but looking at the recent photos of the Humpback Bridge (and with an injured toe that makes hiking through snow painful), I’m not sure it’s doable trying to push such a heavy bike through all that. I’d be fine if the Humpback Bridge was reasonably clear. Thanks, dbb, for pursuing this with NPS. Please let me know if it would help to add my voice.
Update: Thanks to melting and the good reports below, I no longer need to go over the Humpback! Thanks, KWL!

ParticipantMy most important ask to NPS regarding the MVT is from FMR trail to the 14th Street Bridge. I’m surprised that ABAC didn’t include that whole segment in the list mentioned above. It seems like it would be a fairly easy one to do (easy access for equipment from Gravelly Point and no wooden segments) that would help a whole lot of people!

That would be phenomenal if they did. I suspect plowing or at least some variation of it may occur when, and if, they ever reach this obvious conclusion. Perhaps NPS will take notice as other jurisdictions continue to plow the paths and bike lanes by noting their transportation uses.
I just sent an email via info I found at @NPSGWMP to let them know how much we need for them to clear the MVT or at least parts of it. They need to hear from a lot of us, so *please* do the same if you care about this!
