ParticipantLate registrants – I’m bumping a copy of this post to this thread to let you know that you’re invited!
While our happy hour group has grown (73 at this point!) and our room might get a little snug, I’m going to throw caution to the wind and invite late registrants too, but I just want to let all coming to the happy hour know that, while we’ll gather for beer and appetizers in our separate room, some might want to spread out into the main part of the restaurant or bar as well.
I’ll reserve some booths or tables near our room but in the main restaurant area where team members or other groups of friends can gather for more appetizers or dinner. I’ll also set 7 pm as the time when we will award the gold nuggets and make any other announcements so that all won’t feel like they have to stay in the separate room if it gets too crowded. Please be super nice and try to help our wait staff as they work hard to keep track of all of us. They’re very good to us there.
BTW, we have a good-sized side area at the back of our room that’s perfect for backpacks, panniers, jackets etc., so that should make things a little easier. I’ll post a few more details on Thursday. It should be a fun evening!

It was likely a joint decision made between Arlington DES and DPR.
Please thank them. Or maybe I should do that myself. Any particular people?
It looked like they did a careful and light treatment and did not overdo.

ParticipantRamblingrider – bikeshare may a good interim solution. Disk brakes, nice wide tires, . . .

ParticipantDon’t forget the possibility of taking bikeshare bikes out for a spin in snow. They may not be the ultimate snow bike, but they’re pretty good and a lot of fun if you’re reasonably careful. Also, someone else cleans them up afterwards.

The forecast this morning said it would be colder in the PM than the AM, so I had to pack my heavier base layer to wear this evening. The wind wasn’t as bad as I anticipated, but it certainly helped get me warmed up. Also, TGFWS (Thank Gore for WindStopper).
Huge Gore Windstopper fan here too. I did the same (packed heavier base layers for trip home), and after I read your post, realized I wore three Gore Windstopper products on my way home tonight – jacket, facemask and hood. I was warm and comfy for the whole commute (with a crazy assortment of clothing that works for me).
(Turns out that hood is Pearl Izumi wxb, but similar in effect.)

I’ll be there. If you still need help Arlingtonrider, let me know. I can come early.
Thanks Lena. We might need some more help with nametags if everyone arrives at once.

The happy hour date has changed! To avoid confusion, please put any info on convoys to the happy hour under this new thread.
Bumping this up to help avoid date confusion. I think people are tentatively planning convoys from the Adams Morgan area and the Jefferson Memorial.

ParticipantMtansill, I started a Jan 9 convoy thread for the happy hour. People will probably start posting convoy info there soon if you’d like to ride with a group.

ParticipantWe’re all set for volunteers now. Thanks to those who responded to the call!

ParticipantOK, I’m amending this post to offer a prize for the best confession/apology on this thread during the course of the competition. One sentence limit. Must relate to the game. The two posts below both qualify. (We are still all winners just by being out riding.)

ParticipantThanks for the responses! Still waiting to hear from a few more folks, but I might open this up to late registrants tomorrow. Stay tuned. Could still use some volunteers to come early.

ParticipantCould two or three people volunteer to come to the happy hour early – around 5:15 or so, to help with things like set up, nametags, bike parking suggestions, etc.? I’m not sure yet who will bring the team assignments or how those will be announced, but we might need a little help with that too.

ParticipantGlad to see the good turnout for Java Joe (does that work?). Bummed that I slept in today!
