ParticipantThe basic black Incredibell FTW! The thumb hammer rotates so you can swing it into perfect position for on the hoods or in the drops. Nice when a $10 bike part functions exactly as intended.

You are not alone. No results for my bib number or name either. The MyLaps transponder matches the bib number too. Strange. Good thing I’ve got a Strava record of the event, but it would have been nice to see where I landed on the non-leader list.
Just for grins I’m emailing the AFA CC crew. PM your bib number and I’ll add that to my list. Same for anyone else who had the cloak of invisibility on Sunday.Email in from Cadence Sports, who ran the timing. “Sorry for the inconvenience, unfortunately it looks like your chip didn’t pick up at the mats. If you tell me how many laps you did as well as Greg, I can manually enter them into the results.”
Electronically flat-lined, although physically OK. Gamin + Strava > MyLaps transponder chips.

Glad you hitched on for a while, it was great to see you. Yeah… the accent is a total mess these days!
That’s funny. After living here for 20 odd years I’m a bit over being asked if I’m British, which is doubly galling since I’m Australian. In Oz, they are confused but generally assume its an American accent from an obscure corner. Linguistically stateless.

I guess I came in last place. There are no results for my bib number or name even though I did six laps. I guess they gave me a defective lap sensor.

Fantastic day for a fast ride. I got 6 in, but it was harder than last year, as they chopped 30 minutes off. That being said, brilliant day for a ride.
Agreed. I could have used that 30 minutes! Made 5 on this first attempt, and going for 6 seriously next time. Great event all round. Met up with some forum folks, and watched the first hour of the pro crit. Those guys are from another planet.

ParticipantIN! Packet and paraphernalia in hand.
Going for 6 so we’ll see how that works out. 19mph average over 56 miles is a ‘stretch goal’ for me.APKhaos

Yep. Good friend of ours is from those parts, and that’s how it goes.

ParticipantIn the plotter generation, line printers were the top dog for text. Massive drum spinning at high speed with little hammers for each character position [fixed pitch text of course].
These babies could do a rocking 1200 lines/minute [around 20 pages/minute] on large format z fold paper with those ubiquitous serrated sprocket hole edges.
Nobody has these at home, but corporations and government agencies had rooms full of them.[ATTACH=CONFIG]5691[/ATTACH]

ParticipantWhile I’ve managed to stay safe, I talked to a guy at Gravelly Point recently who had a gnarly story to tell. He was riding on the WOD westbound. At one of the [many] road crossings he was riding in his lane when a rider coming the other way swooped down the hill to the crossing and cut hard to join the road, right into my guy. He woke up in the hospital a day later with significant injuries. The helmet he was wearing was shattered. He’s now fine, and riding a sweet new Scott. His story stuck with me and has made me much more cautious about what can happen when rogue riders cross our path.

ParticipantThere’s not much recourse after you’ve looked the bike over and paid for it. Think of it this way; you bought a decent frame with a bunch of custom components. Ride it. If it rides well you’ve done well on a $400 bike.

ParticipantPark Tool has a simple but effective rear hanger alignment tool. The hanger gets banged around over time and straightening it up makes a world of difference. I’d been chasing the rear derailluer adjustment since I got my bike from a CL seller. It was never quite right. Turns out the rear hanger was a good 15 degrees off. Once that was straightened out it shifts like butter.
April 23, 2014 at 4:39 pm in reply to: The "temporary" path construction for the "long-term detour" at Four Mile Run #999337APKhaos
ParticipantIt’s faster and safer to dismount, throw the bike on your shoulder, and take the stairs. I’ve done it a few times going up from the trail to the detour and gained positions on riders struggling to ride the switch backs. There may be a Velominati rule against such crude treatment of the noble steed, but that would not be the first of my many sins in this category.

There’s a black cat that resides next to the trail in the mornings just behind the Navy Federal building in Vienna on the WOD. Travel at your own risk.
Spotted a big black cat chowing down on a catch right beside the trail very near that location yesterday. Looked ready to defend it’s catch too. A little earlier there was a walker stopped on the trail looking back toward the left side. As I passed the young deer he was watching stood stock still in some light brush a few feet from the edge of the trail. Spring is finally here!!

ParticipantIf you have a decent bench you can skip the free standing options and go with a bench mount stand. I have one from an Aussie vendor that is rock solid and very handy. I mount mine in a vice but it comes with a plate to be screwed down to the bench.
