ParticipantTheir portal to make requests works pretty well. I’ve had glass, debris, and potholes taken care of using it.

The mobile app works pretty well too.

ParticipantUgh, I hate that intersetction. You have not very good sight lines, a narrow sidewalk, and drivers trying to figure out that new lane control lighting system with the 27 interchange.
In a car, I don’t think much can be done. If you stop, you’re adding another obstacle to EMS arriving. On a bike though, if you have first aid items with you I’d stop. Maybe help cover a wound, or just provide some moral support.

ParticipantCouple of police with radar guns this morning on the CCT at the Brookeway Dr entrance. They were gunning both directions. Luckily going uphill I was nice and slow.

ParticipantI’ve seen the problem too a number of times. Also quite concerning about the racks is that a number are very lose.
It seems they weren’t bolted in very well.annoyedindc

If there is a traffic light on the WOD through Reston it must have been installed this morning. There are 5 road crossings of the WOD in Reston: Hunter Mill, Sunrise Valley, Sunset Hills, Temporary Road and Wiehle. There are no lights at any of those crossings, though the Wiehle crossing is very near a traffic light intersection, and Temporary Road has a beg button that stops traffic if you chose to use it.
There is one traffic light crossing in Herndon, at Elden. There are no other traffic light crossings until Leesburg and beyond. So, I’m not sure what the issue is.
Isn’t the temporary road crossing light controlled?

I did see two motorcycle police yesterday morning on my way northbound just before little falls and again this morning by the bridge before the tunnel.

NY Magazine
Janette Sadik-KhanI’m looking forward to reading this over my sandwich today!
It’s a good read and encouraging to see a success story in the U.S. for biking.
The fight over the lanes along Prospect Park sounds very similar to what is being waged in D.C. at the moment in Shaw. Hopefully there will be a similar outcome where safety is increased for all people using the space.

Rather than trying to modify behavior of scofflaw drivers or angelic cyclists, a slight infrastructure improvement would probably work work where the is “No Right Turn on Red.”

The Delta Barrier would go up or the drop arm would come down as the light turned yellow. This might have the addd benefit of discuraging drivers from gunning it as the light changes phase.
Can we just put up these to function with the light?

Arlington – Rode on South Courthouse Road for the first time in a while and noticed that it has finally been repaved. Not only that, I noticed sharrows between 2nd St S and 6th St S and bike lanes between 6th St S and 8th St S. Well, the northbound bike lanes have been painted, but the southbound lanes currently are in invisible paint (but there is a sign saying “Bike Lane” so it must be there somewhere).
I hope they get the markings on the south bound side when spring rolls in.
Next item in S. Arlington that could use some work, Southbound S. Fillmore St between Rt50 and 6th St S. The road is a potholed mess waiting to swallow up your front wheel. Best bet for a smooth ride there would be to take the center of the lane.

And “CARS MUST YIELD TO PERSONS IN CROSSWALK”
Did cyclists get updated to personhood status? I thought that was reserved for corporations.
The two laws do seem at odds with each other though.

ParticipantHad to drive today because I overslept. But I was able to scout out the Rt 50 path from my car.
Washington Blvd Bridge & path to on/off ramps to 50 West bound – large blocks of snow in the path. May be able to weave around it slowly.
Sidewalk on Rt50 WB side infront of Sheffield Court Apartments – completely blocked still. Is it the property owner’s responsibility to clear this?
Couldn’t see the other parts of WB side of 50 trail. Will look tonight on the way home.
East bound trail between base and Iwo Jima – hahahahahahahhaha. No.
I’ll update tonight after my drive home. Hoping the rain/warmth clears up a lot of the snow.

ParticipantHere’s a thought, can we just find all the trails that Arlington is responsible for which connect to VDOT trails and submit requests for snow removal near the junctions?

Here is an alternative lap that is apparently rideable — a subset of the HPH crew have been riding this. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7129135
Good to know about both of those pieces of information. I like that alternate Ride With GPS route. 9 am Sunday work? Gives some time for any black ice to melt.

ParticipantAnyone up for some thaw out laps around Hains Point this Sunday? I’m itching to get some miles in after so mean sleaze rides :p
