ParticipantLooks like the Purcellville Connector runs M-F 7a-7p if that’s an option.
Are you that far from the beginning in shirlington? The Friends of the W&OD say the trail is only 44.3 miles.

ParticipantYou might also want to check the inside of the rim, or near the hole for the tube stem. Sometimes you’ll find a small burr that will put a hole in your tube, but they can usually be filed down without a problem.
As an aside, this morning as I was about to get on my bike I heard a strange noise, I went to pick at what I thought was a leaf stuck to my front tire, only to discover it was a huge flap of rubber. I made it home fine last night, and put her away safely. She must be stepping out on me under the cover of darkness.

ParticipantI’d chalk this one up to the growing numbers of people getting on bikes without really knowing the rules and etiquette of the road. er, lane.

run against the flow of traffic so we could see oncoming traffic and jump out of the road if we had to.
That made sense where I grew up in upstate NY, and in places without sidewalks, but in urban areas and on MUTs I don’t think it’s wise, and it really irks me.

ParticipantI rode past this yesterday on my way home and thought it was very suspicious to see two bike accidents a block away from each other. I’d love to see the police report, and also I wonder whether or not the cyclist had the green, and if the officer made an illegal right on red in response to the call up the block.

ParticipantA guy on a tandem bolted past me today on the island between N Fort Myer and Lynn, only to be nearly run over by a K-9 police SUV turning right on to Lynn heading toward DC. No lights or siren, but little regard for us cyclists either.

exactly why I bought a bright light. only mine was AFTER a collision with a ninja jogger. at least she apologized for wearing all black and no lights.
I’ve thought about buying some bulk blinkies and handing them out along the trail to unlit runners.

There are some rolling hills east of the river that might be good if you strung them together, and it’s a much quicker ride over there than it is to Arlington.
Any ones in particular you’d recommend?

ParticipantI was hoping some of these might be closer to DC so I could get in a quick hill ride during lunch. I managed to find some small hills over in Rosslyn, but would appreciate any more tips leaving from Capitol Hill

ParticipantHope you heal quickly. I’ve had issues with the gummy substance between the pavement blocks in that area too, when wet, or particularly hot. Always creeps me out. I used to fly down that stretch, but I’ve been taking it slow the past year, knowing that I’ll most likely get stopped at one of the lights near Lynn St. anyway.
As an aside, a guy passed me, and a slower cyclist I was following this morning, and almost crashed head on into a cyclist coming uphill by that retaining wall between Quinn and Scott. I never pass anyone there in either direction.

ParticipantI’m either heading from the Custis to the Key, or from the MVT to the Custis, and I rarely have a problem with traffic here. Is it much worse for those heading north on Lynn towards the Key?

ParticipantAbout 17 through VA, but drops down to about 15 by the time I slog through DC traffic lights.
