Participantsucked.
(ok, I was on a bike, so it could have been worse, but wow that was some kind of windy)

ParticipantShe accidentally clicked “leave team.” She’s already done the “request to join” thing but I think Steve is on travel so it may be a few hours before he can approve her back in.
Definitely had a “what the HECK???” moment when I checked the scoreboard this morning.

ParticipantSteve O — is this the kind of thing you mean? (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002FO5YU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) This is a hard case wrapped in nylon and backpackable.
This might be the way to go.

ParticipantA great ride! Thanks to all who organized (and bought Pie & coffee!)

Tandem?
Sadly, no. My 15 yo will be under his own power and control.
We actually had a pair of tandems at one point so we could ride 2 adults and 2 kids on 2 bikes (a Burley Zydeco Mixte and a Bike Friday family tandem).
But somewhere around 12 years old, kids change from “The tandem is the coolest!” to “OMG — No. just. no.” So we sold the Burley and are keeping the Friday, but only so I can ride it with Mrs. Alcova.

Took the long way around… That was nice.
It’s usually not nice at all until sometime after March 19th, so you should go via the most direct route from now until then.

ParticipantA glorious morning!
As a relative noob to the forum and to Arlington, nice to run into two forum and BAFS members today – saw Powerful Pete at the IOD (where APD was on scene doing enforcement). I didn’t actually know it was him at the time but Strava knows all.
Next I happened upon Arlingtonrider at Hains Point.
The only downside – now I am at work.

The closely related helmet on the handlebars storer is sure to be here soon too.
Spotted one today! It really is spring!

ParticipantI’d vote for something like “Life is always better on a bike!” or generically positive.
For people who won’t or can’t (or THINK they can’t) ride year round, there’s nothing like those first few days of “in just spring” & so what if they want to share the joy of being back on two wheels after a dismal winter.
I have to keep telling myself this lest I get grumpy at all the knuckleheads clogging up MY trails that I EARNED this winter. And the kids who keep stepping all over my lawn.
PS – I readily admit that as a total Fred / pudgy middle-aged guy (and who is not at all a serious cyclist), I really enjoyed my commutes today cruising along on my flat bar/flat pedal hybrid, yet blowing by fair-weather cyclists on fancy road bikes struggling up minor hills with their puny winter-atrophied legs. Thanks BAFS!

We’ll focus on catching (team who ………….)
Don’t you think you ought to worry about catching the “prim3s” first?
The mighty death eaters of the Team-who-must-not-be-named have been #2 in the weekly totals the last two weeks and just got another rider back off of injured reserve. We’re currently more 300 points up on you Bollards — and opening over the last two weeks. We’re more likely to catch the Dozers, the plummeting Velo9, or even our thread host the Bears than you Bollards are of catching us.
(and congrats Bears – the board shows you back in 2nd. For now.)

ParticipantArlington side streets were fine, as was Fort Myer.
The reflecting pool path has an inch of standing water or more along most of the length. It’ll be fine this afternoon/evening, but with an overnight low of 23, it’ll be impassible tomorrow without studs and courage.
(Nothing quite like a steady stream of 35 degree water coming off your front tire onto your shin and shoe (just enough crosswind to put the stream directly on my right leg).)

ParticipantI’ve been riding flat pedals all winter, which I find is much easier for flintstoning. I’ve also taken to wearing hiking boots when it’s really cold or icy/snowy. I’ve been very glad to have them when forced to walk the bike through icy ruts and snowbanks.

ParticipantJust moved to 6th… 23 points to 5th.
(of course the mornings are a bit silly as riders log their various commutes)

ParticipantOn the other hand, I got to be on the strava “last week’s leaders” board — two weeks in a row! (Seriously though, that’s not a good thing.)
Weather is turning… just a few more days of cold and then mid-40’s next week. Let’s go get ’em!
(Don’t look now, but as of 9:04, we’re only 9 points back from the prim3s)
