Also, illness. While injury can mean someone is completely out, and then being off the team may be appropriate, a cold or the flu may take you out for a few days, but you can be back to riding the following week.
On March 9th of this year I received a call from my doctor. She advised me to immediately cease exercising because of something worrisome she had noticed on a test result. This kicked off a series of events which led to my missing the last ten days of FS. I would have been ticked off if I had been kicked off my team because I disappeared at the very end.
A little known fact: At the time my doctor called I was on my way out the door to go mountain biking. I went for the bike ride first – then ceased exercising.

Anyone who is so clueless or oblivious or unable to safely operate their vehicle should not be allowed to drive, IMO.
But think of how many QOM’s she picked up!

ParticipantFor those going, don’t miss Joyce Palmer’s (future) grave. A cool story and the best headstone evah!

You know, I never thought about getting to the SE9 stone by kayak, but it seems absolutely possible; future eminva group kayak trip to the stone?
Sigh. Now I’m going to have to find this stone by kayak. Did you know there are kayaks that you pedal rather than paddle?

It is a very very tough place for vegetarians. A few vegetarian sides or a grilled cheese sandwich off the kids menu.
Go to Quarterdeck for a beer, then head over to The Little Beet for food. I don’t eat shellfish and am trying to avoid fried and fatty foods, which leaves pretty much nothing on the menu for me. However, the beer isn’t fried so I can drink it!

Meh. I’m not ready to give up just yet. In particular I want to hear WHY the utility trucks cannot access utilities by driving on an outside the sound wall MUT.
From what I gleaned from the article, the issue is that rearranging the MUT to be outside the sound wall would require taking an extra 10 feet of width because of the requirements of the utility easement, and the government is prioritizing local homeowners over cyclists. I guess you would have to dig into the easement to understand the particulars. Perhaps they are guaranteed a certain width for utility trucks, and that width is wider than the planned bike lanes.

ParticipantI just watched the Great Pumpkin ride video. The narrator states, “… the Great Pumpkin Ride has become a favorite way to end the biking season and kick off the holidays.”
“End the biking season”? I’m not sure I could support a ride with that kind of attitude.

BTW, in another tidbit, Luna Park in Coney Island is close to Trump Village.
The Trump Village Shopping Center is being redeveloped into a glitzier mixed use development called “Neptune/Sixth”. The closing of the old stores there (Rocco’s Pizza!) caused my dad much consternation in his last days. Maybe now that Coney Island is getting hipsterized (a craft brewery, a new concert venue, …) they’ll extend Citibikes down there.

ParticipantAs komorebi taught me, whizzing past all the snarled traffic on the way out makes a show at Wolf Trap even better! My experience is that this is true even in the rain.

I normally stay out of this family feud, but in this case I have to point out that last Saturday SteveO was enticing people to “come to the dark side”.

I already knew the moment I had finalized the route and gathered my notes for it that there would be missing historical spots of interest; to include them all would involve a probable century-long multi-day ride that would neither be as digestible nor accessible as the 26-mile one I’ve planned.
Yes, I agree that you can’t include every piece of Arlington history in one ride and keep it manageable.

My father-in-law’s family was run out of Cherrydale when he was a kid. Jews were apparently not welcome in Arlington at that time.

I imagine that when 10sp and then 11sp rear cassettes became a thing it was hard to justify having such tiny graduations in gearing
So, what can I infer about my wife’s personality from the fact that she complains that her 3X10 setup doesn’t give her enough gears?
I just like being able to make the quantum jumps in gearing up front rather than having to constantly step through multiple gears on the cassette … though I will admit it’s harder to keep 3X derailleurs aligned.
