DUIs and Illegal Immigrant Status? You mean it has nothing to do with a Lycra fetish? I’m soooo disillusioned.;)

Looked West on the trail from Gallows road as I drove back from spinning. There is a dusting of snow as of 10:30 this morning, but that section is shady.

It’s good to know there is at least one viable economic stimulus plan out there.

I must be naive or simple-minded but I do not understand the reference to the lead fishing weights, obviously something sinister but I can’t come up with a clear mental image of what exactly is going on.

I assume you fish with the M1 carbine, right? lol

I was a Navy nurse and took care of sailors and Marines but they were sick and a little scared so they at least pretended to relate to me as a sister or an authority figure, and I mean that in a totally protective way.

Looks like another day of spin class or cleaning the house, or realistically watching movies === “Bicycle Dreams” was terrific, saw it last night. Imagine a coast to coast ride in about nine days.

I am glad you are ok and came out of this misadventure in one piece. I am sorry you weren’t supported in your cycling, that stinks on so many levels. Please let us know of any new soreness or injuries surface over the next two days. As a former nurse I can tell you it may not hit you for 48 hours. But you already know that I am sure. Most of all, keep fighting the good fight and look into that RPG thing, maybe a small caliber machine gun mounted turret-style would work.

I think maybe it’s time to mount an RPG on your bike.
Seriously, I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope over the next few days your body doesn’t come up with new injuries.
I don’t trust motorists. Been hit in a crosswalk by an idiot who stared at me the entire time he glided into me. Then left the scene. Hope you’re ok.

I agree, driving home from GMU at night it is amazing how many students bike after dark without lights and without helmets. Perhaps they are on their way to pose for their “Babes on a Bike” photos.

On the one hand, there are few things finer than a fit male cyclist in bib shorts. However, it doesn’t occur to me to post those sorts of pictures here. I trade those links with my girlfriends where we can be obnoxious without a male audience. I noticed most of the women in the photos wouldn’t know a paceline from a pantyline but I guess reality has nothing to do with it. But let the pictures stay, what is more important is the tone and thoughtfulness of of the other posts.

As a woman, I’ve dealt with this my entire life from the weight rooms I worked out in with my swim team when I was fifteen, to a stint in the Navy, law school, etc. I’ve learned to ignore it. I am not terribly offended by it but I my regard for the person posting the pictures would be diminished and I would remember.

I bought my first road bike six months ago and signed up for the Bike League Safety classes. That instruction laid a decent foundation for how I should ride. I spend a lot of time observing other cyclists and pay attention to how they handle themselves in traffic. There are a lot of things I won’t do like glide through a stop sign unless I’m riding with a group or it’s a very quiet residential street with excellent sight lines. Seeing good hand signals and watching other riders be polite to each other makes an impression on me. But I’ve learned the hard way that drivers are not to be trusted, either they don’t see me, are distracted, or confused about what to do when a cyclist is in a crosswalk (big hint, accelerate is not the answer). For me, watching other cyclists makes a big difference in how I ride especially during this first year.

I agree the stretch right around Wiehle, an intersection I do not care for, needed attention. I noticed some sections yesterday near Hunter Mill that will probably deteriorate during the freeze/thaw cycle this winter. I will head out to Reagan National tomorrow and see how it is holding up. Today I’ll face the horror of bad disco music in a spin class. ;-)

The W&O was fantastic today between Vienna and Sterling. Clear, sunny and very few pedestrians or cyclists.
