Yes, ideally these would all find their way back to their rightful homes. Especially nice steel frames like that Gunnar. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen DC-based bikes make it up onto the govt auction website and I don’t recall hearing about them making their way to Phoenix either. I’m afraid that MPD, like many other jurisdictions, might just periodically dump their >90 day inventory.

That looks tiny! I mean, normal human size.

    You’re right :-(
There’s another picture of it from an angle where it looks a bigger.

Via Flickr. There are some sweet bikes in the next MPD auction.

This Gunnar looks like it might be my size.
This Trek seems to come with a Garmin 500.
There’s also a nice looking lugged Robeneick fixie, a smallish looking Tarmac, a cargo trike, and a new looking Trek 7.3.

Did anyone ever determine if it’s actually possible to get these at auction? They’re not listed on the GovDeals auction website MPD’s website links to.

When I was getting onto the Anacostia River Trail … I saw that this beautiful, wide curb cut onto the trail was bollard-free….

I see a fair number of cars up on that stretch of trail on nice weekends. People throw some epic BBQs at those picnic shelters and will haul in all manner of stuff. They always seem mildly shocked to see a cyclist come through.

The bollards farther down where you pass under the bridge are worse. The contrast from bright light to the utter darkness underneath can really mess with you. And one of the “trails” that leads underneath changes abruptly into rocky path.

That price estimate is just for the frameset, right?

I was actually a bit surprised to hear that there were any manufacturers producing Ti frames at that reasonable price point. Most used Ti frames that I see are in that range.

Quotes like that make me believe that one can expect longer life out one’s pedals. […] I greased them regularly (every few months) and I ordered the $15 rebuild kits for a few of them, but that only gave them a little more life.

Not to rub it in further, but I’ve never even waved a grease gun in the general direction of the Shimanos and they still spin freely enough for my purposes. I should probably open ’em up and see what teenage grease looks like and how the bearings are holding up. For curiosity’s sake if nothing else.

They are heavy as bricks though. ~400 grams with cleats.

I’ve lusted after everything Tout Terrain (especially one with an internal gear hub, belt-drive, and dynamo lighting).

If you’re using a front hub motor it’s like having two wheel drive! But you do have to be careful on a few fronts. First, cold batteries are going to put out less power and provide less range. Second, even with reduced power it can be pretty easy to spin the front wheel during a snowy start, which results in a really weird front-fishtail sort of effect.

You’re not at roughly 14th and H are you? I don’t imagine there are that many e-bikes out today.

Saw my first U turn through the zebra-ed section of the Penn Ave lanes today. It was pulled off swiftly and confidently (in fact they looked practiced at it) by some mid-sized sedan. Ugh…

Light was out at Penn and 15th late this morning with no one to direct traffic. Surprisingly, things were moving along in a pretty orderly fashion when I went through. Many thanks to all the cars who let cyclists slip across all four lanes into the cycle track.

Excellent! I still see more Xtracycles around, but hope Daily Rider and BicycleSpace start moving more of these.

Carbon fiber balance bikes for your tot? Seems totally reasonable but, to get more aero, should probably be upgraded with a set of Enve wheels.
