    Seriously, STOPPING RUNNING REDS.

So far this Spring I’ve been impressed by the number of people I see taking all sorts of precautions–helmets, lights, hi-viz clothing, etc–who then do stuff that is CRAZY RECKLESS. Like stuff that 14 year old me with a BMX bike wouldn’t have even thought about.

At least when they (inevitably) get tagged the WTOP/DCist stories will note how careful they were being, what with their safety gear and all.

If someone puts that on the Bike Ambassador trailer I’ll take vacation days to pull it all over the city.

Could it be from a commercial lawnmower running over litter?

Sorry, I just saw this. OK, let’s meet there circa 6. I’ll be in a pink jacket with yellow helmet cover.
    What’s your name, btw?
    Thanks!

In case you don’t see my PM and for anyone else who might want to join: I’m Ryan. I’ll be the tall white guy wearing a grey suit and a yellow tie by the Treasury Department and the 15th St cycletrack around 6:00PM. My bike is an old silver mountain bike rebuilt with front and rear racks and a big saddle bag.

Hey all, I just started a new thread for the late shift. I’m leaving Dupont at 545. If anyone is leaving later than 530, maybe we can meet up? I have no idea how to get anywhere in VA so would like to officially start a late convoy.

I’ll be leaving from 15th and H circa 6:00. We could meet up at the start of the 15th St cycletrack by the Treasury Department’s corner. I used to live in Crystal City, so have a good idea of how to get to Cap City.

Unfortunately, I can’t generally get away from my desk until 6:00. Hopefully I’ll be able to slip out a bit early today, but in any event I’ll be well behind the caravan. See y’all there!

    News Release

Hey, news crew shooting that perfect shot of the Capitol from the bike lane on Pennsylvania Avenue: I’m headed toward you.

    -30-

If someone wants to perch thousands of dollars worth of audio/visual gear on an unattended tripod illegally in the middle of a travel lane, I think they’re more than welcome to do so. I’ll also have no sympathy when the inevitable happens.

One night in late February, when it was pitch black during my evening commute, I had a gigantic tripod and camera appear suddenly in the East Capitol St bike lane beside the Folger (where they’re always running the unlicensed valet for events). The owners were trying to stay warm in their car nearby as they shot the Capitol (a timelapse or something?). They sure jumped out quickly when I skidded to a stop in front of their gear though! Still, they were surprisingly receptive to my pointing out what a horrible idea that was.

The fair-weather riders are back out in FORCE. I was actually late in today due to traffic in the bike lanes (and missing several lights I usually make)!

Yesterday evening there were some shenanigans by inexperienced folks on Cabis, but this morning almost everyone was riding safely and courteously! No shoaling, stopping at lights behind the crosswalks, calling passes. It was great!

    $200 for a 60cm Waterford OS2 frameset

With the carbon fork, headset, stem and braze on derailleur clamp. I’m mightily tempted, but it overlaps substantially with my current bike and I’d be a total hypocrite since I’m trying to empty out my parts bin in another thread.

Okay — as freezing saddles is winding down, I plan to offer a prize for the person who ranks seventh lowest for the average number of miles per ride. I was planning to go with the lowest, but a) I don’t want to make it too easy to target, and b) based on my quicky review of the leader-board, I have a sneaky suspicion that I’m in very strong contention for the lowest avg.

I think it is only fair to enforce a 10 ride/day minimum -that is, the winner must have at least 10 separate days in which they got points for riding- and at least one ride in each calendar month of the competition (to avoid folks who aren’t ‘active’ participants in our lovely little challenge).

Is there someone who can assist in actually pulling the data part of this together? I am planning to offer something in the dessert world as the prize…

Oh no, Dasgeh and I appear to have tied for 7th shortest rides! Taking things out to a third decimal place just seems too competitive for this sort of thing. Besides, I don’t have a current UCI license. I propose instead that, if possible, any prize be split into two separate pint glasses. Alternatively, if the prize isn’t something easily divisible by unit of liquid measure, we could hold a tie-breaking track stand event or some such thing.*

*I cannot do a track stand.
