ParticipantWMATA: “All Metrobus service will be suspended on Monday due to expected conditions.”
Expect above-ground MetroRail stations and tracks to close too. The standard policy is to close them when snowfall totals 6 inches or more. Not that there will be anywhere to go to tomorrow. I doubt anything will be open, except for the usual bars and restaurants (as reported during the most recent winter storm).

ParticipantYeah, I think that already answers whether we be going to work tomorrow.

ParticipantThe nice warm weather today was AWESOME!
I was lazy and didn’t want to waste time removing my bar mitts before the ride, so I might have helped it along.

ParticipantIt’s official: http://www.opm.gov/
Federal gov’t is closed. So are all of the private businesses that follow OPM snow closures.
If the snow continues into late afternoon and the total is at the upper end of the forecast range, everything might be closed on Tue. too.

ParticipantI’m really hoping this doesn’t shut down the Clarendon Mardi Gras parade, in which I’m supposed to be participating.

ParticipantI believe it was canceled in 2010.
The parade time predicted temperature is currently 23 degrees with a wind chill of 18.
As many here can affirm, the parade is a hurry up and wait experience. You go to your staging area… and then wait… like an hour… until it is your turn to go in the parade. Standing still in 23 degrees weather?? Not such a good thing.

ParticipantOh yeah, you never get to ride. When the parade starts… you pretty much walk. So dont count on generating body heat.

ParticipantI think I’ll be using the skis on the W&OD tomorrow.

ParticipantI have very warm clothes, and put on a lot of them when it’s cold. I have yet to have issues with cold temperatures during any part of Freezing Saddles. So if the parade happens, I’ll be there.

“The Clarendon Alliance is announcing that the 2014 Mardi Gras Parade is being postponed, due to snow and ice along the parade route,” Clarendon Alliance executive director Matt Hussman said in an email. “We intend to reschedule the parade as soon as possible — possibly around St. Patrick’s Day… but we need to consult with County officials before we can announce the new date.”

ParticipantOh yeah, we’ll be back in the single digits for the Tuesday morning commute. Sigh.
