I was considering upgrading to some larger tires, bit I decided this winter that 32mm studded tires work just fine on the worst that the w&od has to offer in the way of ice ruts. And roll a bit faster on the pavement.
How do they (you?) deal with a mix of snow and ice? That’s the worst that the W&OD has offered me, and my 37mm Nokians have caused me some fishtailing in the snow.

ParticipantYeah, I should clarify that if it is more than an inch of snow it would add too much time to my commute, so I don’t bother. I fishtail a bit but so far find that the studs catch me before I lose control.

ParticipantTemperatures below 10F in outer suburbs on Friday morning. Another storm on the way Sunday or Monday (or Tuesday). Could be rain but it could be another significant snowfall.

When will it end??? My bike and I both love riding (if you’ll allow me a bit of anthropomorphization), even through “this brutal winter,” but given the horrible grinding sounds that come out of every moving part on my bike as a result of these conditions, I have to wonder if it secretly hates me.

From the article:
“Cold pattern through mid-March, perhaps
The 6-10 day and 8-14 day outlooks from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center both favor colder than normal temperatures.”
