ParticipantThe cold spell may not last too long. The high on Thur. might be above freezing. Saturday could be around 40F. Sunday, upper 30s.
Plus we have the moderate temperatures this weekend. I even rode my triathlon bike today. It might be the first time I’ve ever done that on a January day. Too bad some stupid bird had to ruin it by pooping on my helmet at Hains Point.

That happened to me once, and then someone told me it’s good luck to get pooped on by a bird.
Maybe that person was just making fun of me, though…

Ha, no – that’s a pretty popular belief/balm in India. Bonus points if you get pooped on first thing out of your house, or something.
My take on it always was that being pooped on puts the rest of the day in perspective – someone’s shoving you on the train, but hey, you’re not being pooped on.

Be sure to watch your tire pressure — the studs will do much better at 40psi than 65psi.
You couldn’t ask for a nicer preparation day than this — sunny, almost 60 degrees, and an official work holiday, too. Replacing the brake pads & lubing the chain was downright pleasant.

Only of it is a Foo bird. Foo bird Poo brings good luck. Remember, if the Foo $hit$ wear it.

ParticipantTomorrow won’t be great for Freezing Saddles. I expect to CaBi to work then Metro home when DCPS closes early.
However, since my children were born in 2008 and 2010, respectively, this could be the first real snow since they were old enough to appreciate it.
I’m glad I got a ride in this afternoon when it was beautiful out.

ParticipantI rode around on the mountain bike today for an hour. No Hains Point route this time and thus, no bird poop. I think all the Canadian geese and seagulls hang out at Hains Point and on the Potomac River nearby. (In the spring, there might be as many as thousands of geese there. One time, it looked like invading squadrons of WWII planes, except they were all geese.)
Update from NBC4:
“Moderate Snow is expected Tuesday and Serious Cold to Follow. Conditions will head downhill rapidly Tuesday. Snow will start falling between 9am and noon and not end until around 11pm. At the height of the storm 2pm-6pm winds could gusts to 35 and 40mph. Temperatures will fall quickly from 30 degrees early to the low 20s late. Wind Chill temperatures will drop to 5 to 10 degrees by 5pm Tuesday and -5 by midnight.”
I would expect CaBi to shut down the system at some point on Tuesday. I think they have done so in the past when weather conditions become very harsh.

I share your sentiment! I threw my studded wheelset back on this afternoon. Although I’m not sure they’ll do much in 7 inches of snow – it’ll be fun to see how it goes…

I’m going to get up early (for me) and ride before I send my son to school at 8:30, then drive to work. Then, I’ll turn around and go back and get him from school when it closes, no doubt before I get anything done. As long as I get to ride…!

ParticipantI just finished throwing on my studded tires about fifteen minutes ago. I was certain that w/in 30 minutes of doing so, OPM would announce closure (Murphy’s Law and all, though I’ll need them the rest of the week regardless of what happens with closures tomorrow it appears), but unless something changes in 15 minutes or so, I guess I’ll be wrong.
I feel a repeat of Snowmageddon coming on. Lots of snow going to come down during the day, and everyone’s going to be stuck trying to get home in the worst of the weather.

ParticipantMost school systems have announced that they will be closed tomorrow.
The NBC4 list is incomplete. The Arlington schools site indicates that they are closed too, though there is no announcement on their Facebook or Twitter feeds. (EDIT: Arlington schools were already scheduled to be closed on Tuesday.)
