ParticipantJust like news sources or your savings portfolio, diversify. Check a couple websites or applications. I use Wunderground (great website and phone application) & Apple’s/Yahoo’s weather application. Always check the radar because that’s the most up to date. Look at the sky and hope that it doesn’t open up and start spraying water in your face like it has twice in the last few days. That said, I kind of like riding in the rain aside from low visibility in front of cars.

And wouldn’t life be extremely boring if we knew exactly what the weather would be all the time? Sheesh. That’s part of the fun…
Apropos of nothing, but this applies perfectly to baseball too.

ParticipantThe radar didn’t help on this one either. It just popped up from nothing. The sun was shining during the start of it.

ParticipantWhen I checked weather.com there was a one hour block (i think 6pm) indicating a 50% chance of shower for DC (set to 20005).

ParticipantUh, what rain? Nothing in my neighborhood at all (22205). Had to send my son out to water the tomatoes. I wanted to watch the Nats game, but MASN had it on a rain delay and I couldn’t figure that one out.

ParticipantYou know what sucks – when you can’t figure out whether it is raining. From my office it kinda looks like rain. Called my husband at home and he says the same. Ugh.

ParticipantSame weather profile as yesterday. Storm just popped up and is not moving. It is very localized.

ParticipantRain, rain, go away…

ParticipantIt’s coming down pretty steadily right now.
Weather.com has different forecasts, depending on which page you look at. The “Right Now” section is accurate: light rain. It also says that rain is occurring in only a few spots, and that showers and T-storms should end by 7 pm.
But if I click on the Hourly forecast, it says that occasional rain will begin at 8:30 pm. Looks like they may not update the Hourly section as often, even though it does change throughout the day as I refresh the page. Somewhat confusing.
The Map section helps, but not always. It’s not always apparent which direction the storms or showers are traveling.

ParticipantI raced a rain cloud home and won.

ParticipantMVT was pretty clear about 1745. Many ELITE riders (and likely some ordinary folks as well) taking refuge under the bridges.
Turn at Gravelly Point sucked as the rain was coming sideways from the south and stinging.

ParticipantThe temperatures have moderated too, in the evenings and early mornings. I was almost chilly early this morning out there. It’s not quite winter but it is an early preview of fall.

ParticipantIf you want to avoid the rain just ride in the opposite direction to me, I have been nailed three days in a row when I was certain I was safely home… perhaps my forks function as some strange Dowser tool?
