Huh, I thought the five boros ride would take you thru the neighborhoods instead of all on highways though I can see why. Thanks for the video!

Not much more to say on the Five Boro Bike Tour, but I do think that in general it was fun. I finally finished my video of the ride, so enjoy:

Thanks for the video, it looked like a good ride. I did not see any crowded spots while you were riding. The last time we did the ride we were stopped on the Gowanus Expressway for 1.5 hours, not moving, in a massive crowd of unhappy riders.
What time did you start and how long did it take?

That’s the magic of editing (actually, I turned my camera off when we were stopped/walking so I could preserve battery life). If you watch the Strava Flyby of my ride (turn the speed up just a little), you’ll be able to see all the areas where traffic got jammed: http://labs.strava.com/flyby/viewer/#137421185

Even though we did not get stopped for any longer than 5 or so minutes, 40 miles at an average speed of about 9 mph is torture.

Chesapeake Tour de Cure. If you’ve even wanted to try a long-distance charity ride, this one may be one of the easiest (flat) and nicest.

You don’t ride with kids/cargo very often, I take it.

I do have to admit that going less than 10 mph and it not being due to a hill climb is weird for me, but expectations are everything.

When I’m on my road bike riding with my sister on a 40 mile trip, 9 mph is torture. When I went biking on a cruiser at Venice Beach with my cousin, we probably averaged 8 mph and I was fine. When I get to go biking on my hybrid with my nieces (hopefully this summer, they’re just learning), speed won’t be an issue :)

Riding home on the MVT just north of Gravelly Point, I came across this family. Had to stop and take a picture.

I’d hazard a guess no motorists had the opportunity to see something like this on their drive home.

Brentwood Park, which served as the homebase for DC Bike Polo for years, is getting demolished. Tonight was the last night we had to play there.

The opportunity to see some creepy guy taking pictures of unsuspecting families and posting them on the internet? ;)

While I’d be hard pressed to generally argue the “creepy guy” observation, I did ask their permission. I thought the couple with the baby and the bikes with trailer was too good to pass up. I gave the gent a BikeArlington reflective ankle band and told him I would post the pic on the forum.

Lots of casual cyclists on my new commute route. I’m digging it.

Only in the biking world would people say “yeah! more commuters!!”

You’re also welcome to tell them about Kidical Mass Arlington (or any of the other new KM’s popping up — HOORAY!)

    Where is this?

I’m not a fan of Canada geese, but I took this picture anyway

From last week. The duck family didn’t realize that there were probably thousands or millions of gallons of untreated sewage in the river.
