Here are the basic rules that I’ve come up with so far:

    1. One post per day (I’m not a fan of the spam rides) and no repeat post offices (per person). If two people post the same PO, I’m ok with that. If you find a bunch of great ones while on one ride, go back and do that ride again! Of course, this is on the honor system.
    2. Use #PO on your Strava ride to make it official for leaderboards and post your picture to Strava for that ride.
    3. Make sure you you get the name of the town in the picture. This is why I’m not requiring a picture of the bike.
    4. Feel free to post your pictures to this post. There may be bonus points available for some of the more interesting ones. That could be important in the case of a tight contest! I’ll also enjoy seeing what you come up with.
    5. lol, and bear with me as I come up with some way to keep you advised on who may be getting bonus points. I’m not very tech inclined. I pretty much ride my bike, travel and don’t do the tech stuff.

    link to the FS leaderboard:

    https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/PO

I’m still trying to figure out something for bonus points. Bear with me.

And now, as to why I am doing this:

I’ve done my fair share of travelling across the country, and I enjoy taking pictures of some of the really cool post offices while on a bike ride. Some are really big. Some are really small. Some are really old. Some have million dollar views. Some have $50 views. Your job is to find them!! (while riding your bike). I’m also not concerned about getting your bike in the picture. It’s not always that easy. And, if you feel you need to cheat to get a dumb prize, go for it!

I plan on coming up with prizes for the top three. I’m still not sure what the prizes will be, but I’m not a cheapskate! Maybe a book of stamps, maybe a t-shirt from some town with a cool post office, maybe a 6-pack of beer from a town with a cool post office. Who knows! That makes it even more exciting!

And for a bit of of what I’m looking for, I’ll post three of my pictures. The 1st is a small PO, the 2nd is a bit larger and the 3rd has million dollar views.

p.s. I will also be playing along but don’t worry about me taking one of the prizes.

Feel free to post anything with a cool view!. Even if it doesn’t have name. I have never seen a PO that big!!

Reston post office, inside the lobby. Nothing on the outside of the building to identify it as the “Reston” PO. Riding late at night provided the advantage of being able to bring my bike into the lobby!

From my ride yesterday with the LA Wheelmen. Most of the LA PO’s I’ve seen look more or less like this. I’ll need to do some exploring to see if there are more interesting ones.

    Here’s a picture of the very first PO in Toluca Lake from 1892;

And the country’s oldest Big Boy (which I rode past yesterday) is located in Toluca Lake:

Clarification question: The rules say one post per day. Does that mean posting once per calendar-day or one post per ride-day. I.e., I took pics of POs on both Jan 1 and Jan 2, different rides. Do I post them both? Or is this one posted on Jan 3 (taken on Jan 2) the only one I can submit for the year so far?

Good question. For the leaderboard, it’s limited to one post office per day no matter how many rides you do that day. If you don’t ride one day, you can’t post two rides another day to make up for it.
For purposes of posting to the thread, I don’t care what day you post the picture. Posting pictures from your Jan 1 and Jan 2 rides could be done on the same day. You really aren’t required to post your picture to the thread.
I just enjoy seeing some of the different Post Offices. I’m also still trying to figure out how I’ll keep track of possible bonus points for some of the more interesting pictures.

It’s the Telecommunications headquarters for the country.

What about the Old PO Building on Pennsylvania Ave in DC? The Madrid one is the national headquarters for telecommunications as well.

I’ll go ahead and post another of mine. I’ve been to Thurmont many times, and this was the first time that I have ever seen the Post Office. It’s really off the beaten path, but I found it today.

Ah, yes. I forgot about that. I’m not much of a city person.

I actually had a client (it was a restaurant) that was in that building. It didn’t last very long due to the crazy rent!!

lol, and oh. Nice job getting the NYPD in your picture. Where they looking for you?

Sorry to be late to your #PO reindeer game, but did a couple deca-slease rides over that last two wintery days, and managed to include your #PO game on both of the rides. Of course now I’ve already used up my two most conveniently located post offices.

Have no idea why the second photo rotated as both photos were taken vertically.
