Here are the basic rules that I’ve come up with so far:

1. One post per day (I’m not a fan of the spam rides) and no repeat post offices (per person). If two people post the same PO, I’m ok with that. If you find a bunch of great ones while on one ride, go back and do that ride again! Of course, this is on the honor system.
2. Use #PO on your Strava ride to make it official for leaderboards and post your picture to Strava for that ride.
3. Make sure you you get the name of the town in the picture. This is why I’m not requiring a picture of the bike.
4. Feel free to post your pictures to this post. There may be bonus points available for some of the more interesting ones. That could be important in the case of a tight contest! I’ll also enjoy seeing what you come up with.
5. lol, and bear with me as I come up with some way to keep you advised on who may be getting bonus points. I’m not very tech inclined. I pretty much ride my bike, travel and don’t do the tech stuff.

I’m still trying to figure out something for bonus points. Bear with me.

And now, as to why I am doing this:

I’ve done my fair share of travelling across the country, and I enjoy taking pictures of some of the really cool post offices while on a bike ride. Some are really big. Some are really small. Some are really old. Some have million dollar views. Some have $50 views. Your job is to find them!! (while riding your bike). I’m also not concerned about getting your bike in the picture. It’s not always that easy. And, if you feel you need to cheat to get a dumb prize, go for it!

I plan on coming up with prizes for the top three. I’m still not sure what the prizes will be, but I’m not a cheapskate! Maybe a book of stamps, maybe a t-shirt from some town with a cool post office, maybe a 6-pack of beer from a town with a cool post office. Who knows! That makes it even more exciting!

And for a bit of of what I’m looking for, I’ll post three of my pictures. The 1st is a small PO, the 2nd is a bit larger and the 3rd has million dollar views.

p.s. I will also be playing along but don’t worry about me taking one of the prizes.

Gracie Station on E 85th St built in 1959. It may be hard to find the city name on other NYC Post Offices. My local 10128 at 3rd Ave and E 91st St doesn’t have it.

Turns out my 10128 Zip Code Post Office in Yorkville does have the city next to the door (above the rear wheel of the bike), just couldn’t easily see it in the dark. Guess I should have taken a close up too. Located in the Ruppert Yorkville Towers Condominium at 3rd Ave and E 92nd St.

Here is a post office with a bit of a history.

On 10/3/2002, this was the site of one of the DC sniper attack shootings. This was the closest one to my house, atlhough, I had a few closer to where I worked. Those were some paranoid times!!

Don’t worry. I won’t give myself bonus points for this. However, you coud get bonus points for posting something like this!!

That’s ok. It’s still an awesome picture. No strikes against you! I’m not a normal Europe person. Is it common for the PO’s to not have names on them? I do know that some here in the US don’t.
I just find it more amusing if it has a name on it. I

No they don’t have names and other than this HQ one…the rest are pretty unimpressive! Thanks!

I can’t see it, but I’ve been to enough PO’s to know that there is a good chance it is in that location!

See. I’m easy to please. I think these NYC PO’s are pretty cool.
