I will sponsor the Poggio Pointless Prize again as it looks like code/scoring for for the segment is still up. Most repeats wins a $25 Amazon gift card, virtual delivery. If I can figure it out I’ll also add in a 3D printed Milan San Remo Trophy.
History:
Milan-San Remo, often called “La Primavera” (The Spring), is the first Monument of the cycling season and a symbol of the arrival of spring. Held in March, this prestigious one-day race spans over 290 kilometers, showcasing the blooming Italian countryside as riders traverse from Milan to the Ligurian coast. Its timing coincides with longer days and the promise of warmer weather, reinforcing its connection to the season of renewal.
A key feature of the race is the Poggio di Sanremo, a short but decisive climb near the finish. Although not particularly steep or long, the Poggio is where many riders attempt to break free from the peloton, taking advantage of its tight hairpins and technical descent. Its strategic importance and proximity to the finish make it a thrilling highlight, often determining the victor in the final moments. The Poggio’s drama and the race’s scenic backdrop beautifully encapsulate the essence of spring—a blend of challenge and rebirth.
