Not only did Exxon used to have a tiger as a mascot but I did find a Calvinball behind the sign at one time.

The first rule of Calvinball is that there are no rules. Following that lead, I wanted to take a bright green water bottle, representing the Calvinball along on my ride. Calvin, the cardinal insisted on going along as it’s guardian.
As serious reenactors, they tried various places to emulate past Calvinball hides. You can see those on my Strava. When we got home, I let them choose their favorite.

My sons and dad were real Calvin & Hobbes folk, reading all the books, laughing at their deeds and tricks. The giggles from the bedroom were mischievous so that has always been my impression of C&H. I battled the wind, some rain spritzes and hopped the fence to get under the bridge to nowhere to capture this troll by Mary LaRue Wells, 1990, having just hidden the calvinball in the muck.
The troll on the rope swing captures the visage of Walter Webdale, former head of the Fairfax County Housing Authority and former president of AHC Housing in Arlington, Virginia, who commissioned this work as a way to add amusement to a utilitarian footbridge.

I’m not sure if the CB is now hidden in Reston or near the location from earlier this week, but I’ll take a look at Pierce Mill! Probably won’t ride to the Town Center, but that’s a really cool troll!

Found this grocery cart 4 blocks away from the grocery store. If Calvin were here he’d for sure want a ride!

Dropped the Calvin Ball from this bridge into the stream, now on it’s was east from Reston, perhaps to DC?

Well, I forgot how much fun Calvin Ball can be IF you eventually find it (I think I walked about 1/3 of a mile, hunting for what I eventually realized was a fence perpendicular to a low wall – it was very dark and cold). But when you do it’s just so thrilling. Seriously!
Anyway, if anyone is out and about before midnight or wants to incorporate Calvin Ball another day, he took a bike ride to the Land of KLINGLE Claus a mile or so south or SSW of where I found him. Her. I don’t know what a ball’s pronouns are. Klingle was shot down over Canada as a distraction from Nord Stream and somehow drifted here . . .
The photo is where she is, look carefully, which I then laid down and covered with leaves. I will post lots more photos on Strava under Steve Szibler and, if it works, the hike which is on my Garmin 245 that I’ll mark as #nobafs. But both don’t always post. Strava is fickle like that. Should be enough info in this photo.
So fun!
PS Don’t know why it posted sideways. These attachments are always degraded a lot for me, but the Calvin Ball is in about the center of the photo and it’s b&w.

Alas, war is the ultimate “game” in which we make up the rules as we go along. Starting with the first of the wars listed, in which the rule was that there would be no more.

On my ride today, I saw a poster of a cat that reminded me of Hobbes

ParticipantYou all are awesome!
Here’s the next week:
Week 8 Scavenger Hunt: Alliteration Week!
2/18/23 Saturday *Service Saturday* Photo of something community service related (bonus if you are participating in a community service project)
2/19/23 Sunday *Sustainable Sunday* Show us a piece of a sustainable future
2/20/23 Monday *Manic Monday* Photo inspired by this 1980s song or something from the 1980s
2/21/23 Tuesday *Timeless Tuesday* Time is a slippery construct. Can you depict it in a photo?
2/22/23 Wednesday *Wordplay Wednesday* Solve today’s Wordle or another single-word puzzle of your choosing from this same date (e.g., SUSIE is another good one), share a link to the puzzle, and depict the answer in a photograph
2/23/23 Thursday *Thankful Thursday* Photograph something you’re thankful for
2/24/23 Friday *Foodie Friday* Highlight a Local, Farm-to-Table, or Small Business with delicious food or ingredientsFebruary 18, 2023 at 2:19 pm #1125281cvcalhoun
ParticipantI’m assuming that on Wednesday, we need not follow the rule about not bringing the item with us? Because asking to borrow a stranger’s phone to play Wordle might be a bit weird.

Rule still holds. Solve Wednesday’s unique daily puzzle online (e.g. at https://susie.rbrignall.org.uk/ or https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html), then go out on your bike and take a photo depicting whatever the answer is. So if the answer is KOALA, you get on your bike and hope to find an Australian eucalyptus-munching mammal, or something that will bring that to mind on your ride
Share your photo here with a link to whatever puzzle you chose. It just has to be one of the puzzles where the answer is a single word and it changes daily so we get the element of surprise!
As usual, be as creative as necessary. You all are rocking that!
Hope that makes sense. And apologies for getting the week’s themes up later than usual. Busy week!
Have fun!

ParticipantOkay, since this will be the first (and last!) Wordle for me, how does this work?
When you say a link to whatever puzzle you choose, are we talking about a link to Wordle like you just gave? Or, after you solve it, a link to something that shows all those green and yellow boxes like the ones I’ve been filtering out of my Facebook feed? Or a link that shows the actual word?
If you fail to solve a Wordle, does it still tell you what the answer was? And even if it does, can you use that word if you didn’t solve the Wordle? Or do you have to keep trying other puzzles until you solve one?
Assuming the link doesn’t show the actual word (because if it did, legions of Wordle fans would rise up to destroy you for giving it away), how do you explain the connection between that koala and your picture without letting the world know that the word is koala?

The Adopt a Road Program is a great service by the community to help keep our roads free of litter. I rode along this road to make sure folks were keeping up with keeping it clean.
