    2/4/2023 Barbie

When I think of Barbie Dolls and Barbie Doll themed parties I always think of pink. This pink balloon was on a mailbox today as I rode by. Maybe they are having a Barbie Birthday party today?!?

I rode to Target and took a photo of their extensive display of Barbie dolls. Then I stopped at my local independent bookstore, Scrawl, to pick up a book and when I walked in the door saw this book. The main character, Marlene, is the anti-Barbie with her frizzy hair. Since I’ve never been a fan of Barbie (although Mattel has certainly diversified her), I had to go with “Frizzy” for today’s challenge.

    2-4-23. – Barbie 50th anniversary

Barbie went for a walk at a nearby park and decided to sit in her favorite chair to read a few pages, and take a load off. Although this chair is slightly large for her, she likes to sit up high so she can keep an eye on the happenings in the neighborhood. A few hardy souls stopped by to pay their respects, but then Barbie decided that it was MUCH too cold for her to sit outside (I mean, she IS 50, after all), and opted to head back to her Barbie Dream House and sit next to the fireplace. She DID, however, allow me to snap an image of her throne.

2/4/23 Per History.com, Barbie debuted at the NY Toy Fair on March 9, 1959. Prior to being Barbie…Mattel company owner’s wife noticed her daughter liked paper dolls of adult women–okay. Barbie was fashioned after German doll Lilli who was sold to men as a racy gag gift at tobacco shops in Germany, which is super creepy.
    (cannot post photo again…oh well)

    Barbie day doll birthday 2/4/23

Not sure which of these it’s supposed to be, but this fascinated me. It’s a HUGE keychain, I assume for a LITTLE kid. Shopping was rough. Leaned on the cart like a 99 year old. Had trouble getting out of the garage.

I’m sure a few ‘barbie doll’ trophy wives can be found in the Hamptons!

I really wanted to take a selfie with Beth T for this one, cuz before I met her I always thought Barbie’s proportions were complete BS. I mean who has a waist like that and can actually live?
But….. It wasn’t a great day for us to meet up…. [emoji1744] so she found me the avenue Q Barbie pond [emoji38][emoji1744]

Before they could send manned missions to the moon, they had to send self-propelled robots like these. (Well, okay, bigger than these, but still…)

    2/5/23: Apollo 14

I spent the evening watching the Lunar New Year parade in San Francisco, but all the signs were saying Chinese New Year. It’s a long parade…I left after two hours and there were still a lot of groups that hadn’t started marching yet.

So I had to settle for a mooning selfie

At the Chocolate Festival I despaired of finding anything relevant. But on the shelves of the old library of the building where the Taste of Chocolate was held, this gem caught my eye!

This golf ball is a reminder that Commander Alan Shepard of Apollo 14 hit two golf balls while on the moon.
(I searched around the golf course perimeter, but could find no errant balls. In the parking lot, “Joe” was getting ready for a round. I told him about the hunt for today and asked if he had a golf ball I could photograph. He was happy to oblige and remembered the event, while he was serving in Vietnam. I hope he had a great game today.)

Didn’t they eat Luna bars on Apollo 14 because it was designed for space travel? No?
