Where is the list of items to find? How did you know that it’s the 70’s for today? The only way that I knew is that I had to wait for someone to post a picture. I don’t see it in this thread.

It’s lost previously in the thread, but you can always check the FS calendar, which may be found by scrolling down on freezingsaddles.org. You can also add the Google calendar to your set of calendars by clicking on the Google logo.

From about 1975 to 1977 I was an active member of the Stuyvesant High School Rapid Transit Club – and now I get to attend the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting

I was going to get a photo of a taxi, since the TV show Taxi was very popular in the 70’s. Then suddenly a young lady appeared wearing these audacious bellbottoms.

When I was a kid and living in Japan, hello kitty was brand new. It was the only time in my life that I was on trend.

    1/8/23 70’s Roman Candle

Before regulations for firework safety interfered with good fun and personal responsibility for shooting an eye out, children of the 70s even held onto Roman Candles to fire them off (at least we did in Louisiana in the 70s).453a82c956361d432c1cc0743fa7e5fe.jpg

    1/8/23 – 70s: The Watergate!

Well Jessica got it first & I like her picture better than any of mine, but my memory of the event is kinda fun:

So there was this big scandal in the early 70s involving Nixon & the Watergate hotel. I grew up in Puerto Rico in the 70s, removed from US culture (and felt like a total fish outta water when I came to the US for college in 1981*) but I sure remember the Watergate scandal!

Even with no cable to the island (we had 4 TV stations in PR in the 70s) we got the Watergate tapes. They came to PR after the fact, and they were grainy & staticky, but my parents pulled our li’l black & white TV outta the closet to watch the saga.

It’s pretty incredible that I now live just a short bike ride from the very hotel where the scandal happened!

Soooo this pm I rode out the Custis & across the Potomac river & got some pictures of it. My best one’s probably this pano without any of my bike in it, though unfortunately the sign out front isn’t gonna be legible here, though it’s in the pic!

[* I showed up at Brandeis looking & sounding American – and Jewish! But I had no idea wtf anyone was talking about with the US TV & Jewish culture…. [emoji2358]

The Columbia Pike library moved to its current location in 1975, and was also the library where I got my first library card in the 1970s, and I’ve been a reading demon ever since.
