The Drumaldry neighborhood in Bethesda is characterized by this 1970s architectural style, with the huge windows. As the Washington Post puts it:The small neighborhood of 104 single-family houses lies within the Courts of Wyngate subdivision. It was built starting in 1970 by home builder Miller & Smith, and designed by architect Nick Pappas with David N. Yerkes and Associates. Pappas’s house designs were also inspired by the rustic feel of English country villages, according to resident Murray Goldstein, 94.
With much of the area characterized by homes from the 1950s, this really stands out.

ParticipantWhere is the list of items to find? How did you know that it’s the 70’s for today? The only way that I knew is that I had to wait for someone to post a picture. I don’t see it in this thread.

This church was a 7-11 in 1970 when a 19 year old black man, Robin Gibson, was murdered by a white clerk who then planted a knife on Gibson’s body to claim he was attacked.
The murder ignited racial tensions in Alexandria. Ira Robinson, a black activist, helped ease tensions, but there was violence across the city for several nights. Robinson was later elected as the first black member of the city council. The clerk was charged with murder and later pled guilty to manslaughter. Robin Gibson is buried in Coleman Cemetery in Fort Hunt. I am sure his family must still miss him.
It seems fitting that the site of young Gibson’s death is now a house of prayer.

Participant1/8/23 – Disco
Disco was popular during the 1970s. I think September by Earth, Wind and Fire is one of my favs. What is your favorite disco song?

It was posted on thursday in this thread — for the whole week. It was hard to find — a digital scavenger hunt perhaps! Lol. I’ll try to find it again and tag you.

So far the Photo Scavengers are on FIRE!
Now for Week 2 of the Photo Scavenger Hunt: Decades!
Take a photo each day to represent a decade, as follows:
1/7/23 Saturday ’90s
1/8/23 Sunday ’70s
1/9/23 Monday ’60s
1/10/23 Tuesday ’50s
1/11/23 Wednesday ’40s
1/12/23 Thursday ’30s
1/13/23 Friday ’20s(Yes, we know ’80s is missing…)
Can you take an iconic shot, so that it’s clear to anyone who sees it which decade you’re targeting? That’s awesome! Do you need a little explanation? That’s okay, too.Great start, everyone! Love seeing the creativity!

ParticipantThanks for posting the list for this week again. I couldn’t find it. I only have my phone so I don’t know if that’s why I couldn’t find it. I should get my computer back from being repaired this week.
