My three children were all born in the 90’s. We spent a lot of time at the local playgrounds during the 90’s.

The 90s are known as the Post-Cold War Decade. The fall of the Berlin Wall marked the end of the Cold War, and its official demolition began on June 13, 1990. This is a photo of a 4’ fragment of the Wall displayed outside of the entry to the Bundeswehr-German Armed Forces US Command Headquarters on Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston.

1/7/2023 – The 90s

The 90s were the grow up time for Reston. The village centers became dwarfed by a thing called the Reston Town Center. It started with the Hyatt hotel. The 90s were before the four lane roads and stop lights came to Reston. A sleepy time for a sleepy town that grew up. [ATTACH=CONFIG]29446[/ATTACH]

And I was lamenting that they were skipping the 80’s because that was such a great artifact for 1989 — the year the people took the wall down. I was stationed in Germany at the time and it was wild!

Luckily this place wasn’t far from my house. I wore regular bike clothes under the coat. I carried the hat, tripod, and other supplies in a bag until I got to my destination. Then I stopped back at my house briefly to ditch the bag and switch the coat out for a jacket before continuing my ride afterwards. Thanks!

Proteus was founded in 1972. While they are in a nice, new location now, this is the original building on Route 1.
