I was going to post (yet another) West St sign for Comet West (the other bright comet from the 1970s @AlanA), but then I literally came across this box of encylopedia volumes almost in the middle of the trail. (!?)
The volume with “comet” is open. The picture caption reads:
“Daniel’s comet, photographed in 1957, has a period of about 6 1/2 years.”

11/11/24. Get your telescope ready!! At least we have a chance to see yours again. Bennett and West are looking bleak for us.

I betcha that this operation could confirm or rebuke the existence of Comet, and perhaps prepare us to go live in his hood, too

This is the infamous “Pizzagate” restaurant, which gathered lots of sympathy as it weathered the parade of craziness. Unfortunately it squandered some of that good-will when its owner came out against the Connecticut Avenue bike lanes.

What more appropriate “comet” could there be for π Day than a pizza place named Comet?

3/14/23 ([emoji313] Comet Arlington Planetarium-lived here since 1986 and remote memory of having been inside once . Was not even sure it was still there. A planetarium should be a good place to view a comet457d33803828481c511e8cf188e75f60.jpg
That cyclist may also have been stopped to take a picture???

I almost had to settle for Bon Ami because I went to Mom’s first! But later, when I decided it was too damn cold and windy and too damn far to Metro to Ashburn to fly back on the W&OD, and i was too damn tired, I decided to go to the Giant and let some other (damn) team win Freezing Saddles. Why is it all winter again besides the obvious? I even put my damn BarMits back on.

    3/14/23- comet

I wasn’t gonna ride into DC or Alexandria in today’s wind, where apparently all the local comets are – but I happened to find a car so old it was a teenager when Haley’s comet was last seen.

[emoji38] what a reach. But you DID say we should be creative [emoji16][emoji1744]

You can’t read it at this resolution, but you can probably zoom in on my pic on Strava – the plate days “1967.”

    3/15/2023 – Cupid

In the tale of Cupid the honey thief, the child-god is stung by bees when he steals honey from their hive. He cries and runs to his mother Venus, complaining that so small a creature shouldn’t cause such painful wounds. Venus laughs, and points out the poetic justice: he too is small, and yet delivers the sting of love.

Since mythology is made up, I can make up some more. This is where he stole the honey from.

    3/16/23 – Donner & blitzen

I got the days mixed up – but I decided to go with it.

This is me after I DONNED a ton of layers to go out & ride into the BLITZEN (aka headwind [emoji16]) So that makes me a Donner…. Blitzen is there too, but you can’t see wind exactly, though it’s definitely in the picture!

Today I rode west on the w&od, because I finally got my woo-hoo! back, and my friend Jan was riding down from Purcelville so I’d finally get me some riding company! Which is the point of freezing Saddles, amiright?

Man today riding out in the w&od was like those dreams where you’re tryna run REALLY HARD but it’s like you’re underwater [emoji2358][emoji38]

    Maybe I’ll find a Cupid tomorrow. [emoji848][emoji38][emoji1744]
