Photo taken at home because it was just waaaay too windy to eat them/photograph them outside of Hunan Cafe where I bought them. I’m still not eating inside any restaurants but that isn’t even an option at Hunan Cafe, they’ve been doing carry out only since the original Covid lockdown.January 17, 2022 at 8:31 pm #1116937SusanG1693

Sadly, they were closed today. Some pan-fried dumplings would have been great on my cold ride today

I went past the Bangkok 54 restaurant in S. Arlington on Columbia Pike, hoping I’d see a cool menu with a photo of a plate of dumplings, but no such luck. Then went to Mrs. Chen’s kitchen, and still no luck! Finally went past the ramen shop and did manage to snap a photo of their menu on the outside wall, which DID have dumplings!

When the going gets tough, find a Dollar General along the ride.

If you’d asked for tamales, this would have been easy. I finally went into a so-called Japanese restaurant. They did have dumplings on the menu, and they tasted okay, but the texture was a bit strange. When I was a kid we lived in Japan and I loved going to the train station and getting freshly steamed “nikumanju”. (I have no idea whether that’s the actual word but that’s what it sounded like when we asked for it.) Since returning to the US I have spent my entire adult life hoping to find them again. Not today.

Mulan dumpling showed up in Google maps, which led me to learn more about this cool sounding local company
https://www.mulandumpling.com/
“In 2016, co-owner Roya Shadravan had discovered she had a brain tumor. Luckily she survived the operation with no harmful symptoms. The event changed her and her partner Kristy Lam’s lives. We became extra conscious about the food we ate, and it’s health benefits. We found it challenging to find convenient, international cuisine that was also healthy. As a result, we left our established careers and created Mulan Dumpling. We put our heart and soul into making a variety of delicious dumplings with fresh and natural ingredients.”I haven’t tried them yet, but Union Kitchen is one of the places you can buy them locally.
