I hate flats. I hadn’t had any for a couple of years and then when I was here in El Paso in September I had 11 flats in 3 weeks and that was with tire liners and brand new gatorskins. I converted to slime tubes and so far, so good. But you definitely earned that cerveza!

FYI. These flats were in Las Cruces, NM. I made the mistake of riding the bike offroad for a photo op. So many thorns in both tires. Both went flat within two miles of that photo. It took forever to get all the thorns out. You have to stick to the main roads out here.

Ah — since you’re in LC, just down the road from me, I very highly recommend the slime tubes. Even on road, if the wind blows, the goat heads return. How long are you down here? I *might* be able to meet you!

I’m moving on to the PHX area on Tuesday. Just one more day here. I’m going to try my Organ Mt. ride again tomorrow (and pick up some more tubes on the way out at a bike shop). And yes, I have had a few flats on just riding on roads in the past. But nothing like I had today. I checked when I got back to my hotel, and I had nothing. This was strictly offroad.
I will remember to check my tires a bit more often on rides. I sort of forgot about that problem.
Maybe I’ll catch you on the way back (if I come back this way). I never really know where I’m going on these trips. I wing it a lot.
