Pointless Prize: 2022 Photo Scavenger Hunt

Rules:
This year we have two competitions: a main competition and participation prizes! You can compete in both simultaneously or just one.
- To compete for a participation prize you must (1) upload one or more photos of the item to your Strava ride for that day. (2) title your Strava ride with the hashtag #scavhunt. Please only hashtag ONE ride per day with #scavhunt. This hashtag will ensure you automatically show up and get ranked onto our scavhunt leaderboard (https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/scavhunt).
- To compete in the main competition (with one or more points awarded daily based on photo creativity, beauty and/or the capricious whims of Millie and Rumi) your entries must be posted HERE on the Forum in this thread (http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?18934-Pointless-Prize-2022-Photo-Scavenger-Hunt)
Detailed rules are below:
- Obvs, you should be a participant in Freezing Saddles ’22
- It has to be on a bike ride on the day it was requested
- For the main competition, it has to be posted in the Forum on the day for which it was requested, i.e., 12:01 AM EST to 11:59 PM EST for the day it was requested. Sorry, we won’t count ones that aren’t posted for the day it was requested. That’s part of the challenge
- The reason we say “for the day it is requested” is because we will release a weekly list of scavenger hunt items ahead of time, with one item for each day — but don’t take and/or post the pic until that day comes.
- The Scavenger Hunt calendar will be updated weekly here: (https://tinyurl.com/2022scavhunt) Each (Saturday-Friday) week of items will have a common theme. We will always update it in advance of the week ahead so you have time to make plans!
- Your Forum post must be titled with the date and the found object/theme. Example: IF the item for January 1st was “borscht”, you would title your Forum post: 1/1/2022 borscht
- Description, short backstory or location are optional (but nice). That said, if your pic is abstract or not obviously relatable to my request, please explain (e.g., I ask for “happiness”, and you post a pic of a tennis ball you found on a ride, please explain how that tennis ball = happiness)
- It has to be a picture you took. You don’t need to be in the photo, but if you are in it, it either has to be a selfie or done with a self-timer
- Only one pic/day should be posted in the Forum. Please don’t pad by adding more than one pic/day. (You can include as many photos as you want on your strava ride.)
- It has to be a picture, not a video
- Let’s stick to things you find out there during your ride, and not things that you bring or make yourself (unless otherwise specified). Example 1: if I say find “2022”, don’t scratch it into dirt. Example 2: if I say find a flower, don’t bring a flower with you on your ride and take a pic of that. This kinda takes the fun out of looking for things, which is the whole point.
- Unless specified otherwise, your bike does not have to be in the photo.
- Found item needs to be clear and discernible (or legible if text) in the picture. If you are using Tapatalk and are having trouble posting pics that are large enough, let us know and I/we can try to help you with it.
- Filters are OK, but no obvious/blatant photoshopping… not that we would know anything about such things
Scoring
Scoring will be different for FS22 and there are two different prizes you are competing for simultaneously:
- Main Competition: To compete in this prize you must post in this Forum ( http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?18934-Pointless-Prize-2022-Photo-Scavenger-Hunt ) complying with the rules above. Scoring will be arbitrary and capricious, and only one person per day is guaranteed to get a point each day. Hopefully this will cut down on some of the back-end work. How will you be the lucky point-winner for the day? Impress us with your creativity. Since we are publishing an entire week at a time, it should give you some time to come up with a creative idea. The rider with the most Main Competition points at the end of the competition is the… winner of the Main Competition.
- Participation Winners: There will also be participation awards for the top tier of daily participants. Tag one ride each day with #scavhunt, add your photo(s) of the item, and watch this leaderboard https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/scavhunt . This will be scored automatically by the leaderboard itself (one point per daily #scavhunt ride), is honor-based. Please do not tag more than one ride per day with the hashtag. Anyone in the top 10% of the leaderboard (based on number of rides, not mileage!!) at the end of Freezing Saddles will get a special prize!

SCAVHUNT PARTICIPATION PRIZE UPDATES
The participation prize is based on the number of (once per day) #scavhunt hashtags on your strava rides are being scored separately on this leaderboard.

Prizes will be awarded to the top 10% of participants. There are currently 62 participants overall, so I will pick the top 6.2 of you for participation prizes (I’ll figure it out, LOL — but I’m arbitrary and capricious, quirky and sometimes unexpectedly generous, so I’d say if you are in this list or close to it, keep riding, keep taking pictures, keep playing.)
I will be auditing the top 10% of participants, and would hate to disqualify a potential winner (though this is why I encourage anyone who is towards the top of the leaderboard to pay attention here)!
(1) To win you need to have limited yourself to only hashtagging #scavhunt on one ride PER DAY. If you have hashtagged more than one ride per day as #scavhunt, please go back and fix that now or you’ll be disqualified from winning a participation prize
. I see at least one participant has 59 scavhunt rides and we are on day 58 of the competition (unless perhaps you are in a timezone that is a day ahead). The only thing used as criteria in scoring will be the total number of #scavhunt rides (Mileage has no bearing), but I have no way of enforcing it so please make sure you’ve complied if you are in the running.(2) Your daily #Scavhunt strava ride must have AT LEAST ONE photo of the scavhunt item posted to each #scavhunt ride on strava. You can have multiples on your #scavhunt Strava ride! (Only one a day on the Forum here, please, for the daily beauty prize competition.)
(3) Please friend Rumi Matsuyama on Strava if you haven’t already and are “in the running” so I can validate your entries. If your rides are all private, and you are in the running, we’ll need to work something out so I can validate you. I’ll reach out to you about that as we get close to the end if you look like you are a winner but I can’t see your rides.
(4) if it isn’t at least somewhat obvious why a photo qualified for the #scavhunt that day, please explain it to me in the strava description! Again, if you aren’t likely to be a participation winner, don’t worry about this, and I only need this if the photo really needs to be explained why #scavhunt.
(5) if you have been playing every day and only posting photos to the forum, that’s great!!! but it doesn’t count towards the participation prize unless you have been ALSO hashtaggin#scavhunt in Strava, and uploading one or more photos per day to that #scavhunt ride that relate to the #scavhunt item (or describe why it relates). I know it’s a pain, but to give folks a broad opportunity to participate (and to make it feasible for us to score it somewhat) this is how it olls.
The current frontrunners are as follows (excluding myself) as of 9am ET on Sunday 2/27. At least 6 will win prizes.
