SCS is an employee-owned environmental consulting and construction firm that designs and implements sustainable environmental solutions. This company was started by our friend, and fellow cyclist, Tom Conrad.

My daughter and I were enjoying determining what we passed was engineering versus what was biology or chemistry on our ride to the National Mall. She pointed out a sign that shows that humans are not the only engineers:

A lot of engineering went into creating this locomotive engine at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg

Denver LDS temple. Lots of 1980s engineering to design & build.

This bike/pedestrian tunnel under the CSX/MetroRail lines (and Telegraph Road/495 interchange) that connects Mill Road & Duke St is a hack amongst oodles of railway & roadway engineering when some planner said “hey, what about non-motorized transportation?”

GW Science & Engineering Hall from last night. I intended to stop by again, but no way. Too cold and windy!

I was on the 4 lakes ride with camiller today. This is the dam at Lake Accotink. I actually rode down the steep hill to the left of it this time! Mu guy says this is a better pic than the one that shows the hill and a few people (and even a bike!) Hee seems really sure about that, though, and I’m not, so he wins.

The dam at Lake Accotink is an engineered dam. The whole ride was full of engineering actually, but this was the prettiest bit of engineering, I think.

Lake Accotink has had some improvements, btw. Today was the first time I’ve felt safe to ride down the steep hill to the left of the dam because it’s been so well repaired. Here’s a pic of the dam with the hill beside it, and a few people — and a bike!

    Hiya Rumi —

I didn’t mean the 2nd to be a prize submission — I just wanted to show the repaved plummet, for people who hadn’t seen it yet. It was meant as a PS, in case anyone is reading the captions. Sorry for the confusion. :D
