ParticipantCouldn’t get a usable photo last night during my solo almost Midnight Saddles Blood Moon/Lunar Eclipse ride so I stole these two from the consulate facebook group. It started out looking like it was going to be a non-event with some clouds where the moon would rise. I rode the eight miles down the Nidda River to Höchst without being able to spot the moon. Then after crossing the Main at 22:30 and heading back into Frankurt I saw the faint burnt orange moon about a quarter obscured over a field about 10 degrees above the horizon. Then I saw it off an on until I got home at 23:30. Thre were lots of people out watching the eclipse, in fact in some places they were blocking the cycle path. Also remind me to not ride along the Main path even at 23:00 on a beautiful Friday night, especially after at HOT (95°F) day! Seemed like have of the young population was down there.

ParticipantHey all, we can take advantage of an extry hour of nighttime on the last Midnight Saddles ride of 2018. (The time change happens at 2am, Nov 4)
Mark your calendar for Saturday night, November 3.
Details TBD, but let me know if you think you’ll be coming, which may influence our destination.

The cider ride is Nov 3rd, so my attendance will depend on if I can get a nap in between events, or even want to look at my bike after the cider ride.
(or maybe I’ll just do a shorter route at the cider ride this year if it’s cold again so I’m not grumpy after)

I’m in a similar spot – will depend on how I fare with the Cider Ride (especially if I’ve got M with me). On the plus side – I have a really short trip to get to the start/finish so it’s theoretically easier to get some rest in between events.

ParticipantFor those of you doing the Cider ride, you can think of Midnight Saddles as your next-day recovery ride, since much of the ride occurs on the next day.

I’m doing the Lime Connect Century in Reston on 11/3 and a “Ride your Age on your Birthday” metric plus on 11/2. I’m sure I’ll need a late night/early morning recovery ride before I vote and head back to Germany

ParticipantMore details for our upcoming Midnight Saddles ride.
Saturday, November 3
10:30 pm – Gather at the Lincoln Memorial
10:45 – Wheels up!
Ride around in the dark for a while (draft route). Estimated mileage: 16. We’ll check out Audi Field at night among other attractions.
12:30 am ish – Arrive late-night eatery: Amsterdam Falafelshop, 1830 14th St. NW
1:30 – 1:01 ish – Head for home. (You may get home before you left, since the clocks turn back at 2am.)Midnight Saddles rides are fun, social rides. We ride together as a group at a moderate pace with occasional stops to take photos or otherwise take in something interesting. We always end at a late-night eatery where we share food, drink and company. (If you are new to Midnight Saddles, scroll back through this thread to learn more)
All are welcome to join the ride. If you are concerned about getting home afterward, we will make sure at least one person accompanies you, even if that has to be me.October 26, 2018 at 4:24 pm #1090841streetsmarts

ParticipantI’m a maybe, just having arrived home that afternoon from a round-the-world trip. It’s been amazing seeing pedestrians, cyclists, and cars barely avoiding crashes on the chaotic streets

ParticipantCan’t make it, sorry. But, you will have excellent weather- clear, mid-40’s, light winds. This time of year, you can’t ask for more. Ride well!
