Oh, man! Sorry, Ricky. We decided to change the route since some of us had already been out for a while at the pre-MS events.

Some photos from Friday night/Saturday morning. I believe Chris W and others may have better pics than these.

This was at Trusty’s Bar: “Dive Bar” is an accurate description. Rimas was also there, but got cropped out.

After the Congressional Cemetery Soul Stroll, we went past the Capitol to get to the Washington Monument

Pre-ride pic at the Monument. consularrider not pictured, because he evidently is unclear on what “meet at the Washington Monument” means.

The Skelster joined us on the ride and for the pancakes

Looks like you guys had a good time, even with the (jabs elbow) lower mileage. Midnight Saddles is one of the recurring events that I would look forward to when I was there, and I’m glad you’re still doing them.

Because Midnight Saddles was shortened, you only had Midnight Sad :(

Sorry I missed them when you attended…esp. the lighted eggs version!! And I am glad our mileage was shorter! It’d been a long week!!

Ha, it’s all good. My own bad for not giving a heads up. It was late, and I knew I was taking a chance by not pinging anyone first. I was thinking that if I missed you that I’d be able to see some of the meteor shower that was supposed to be occurring that night, but nada on that front.

It was dark along the trail and my light’s indicator started to blink red, so for parts of the ART I turned off my lights and while riding and almost got clobbered by deer running across the trail. Highly not recommend ;)

I also saw a guy on the side of the trail that (in my mind at least) was in a contorted standing position. I couldn’t tell if he was ready to pounce on me or if I scared the bejeebus outta him, but I sprinted like a bat outta hell for ten seconds :D

The lighted eggs thing was a lot of fun thanks to Bob and the company. Bummed I won’t be able to make the costume ride all the folks are doing.

Mark your calendars, night owls. Announcing the first Midnight Saddles ride of 2018.

More details to follow, but ride will be similar to previous Midnight Saddles rides:

    – Gather c. 10:30 PM with rollout at 10:45. Gather will be at the Lincoln Memorial apron due to construction at the Washington Monument
    – Ride around in the dark. Warm summer night riding is particularly enjoyable, IMO
    – End at a late night eatery
    – Eat/drink
    – Head home in the wee hours
    – Sleep late on Saturday morning

I’m thinking of ending at the Kabob Palace in Crystal City, which is open 24 hours. However, if there is a strong contingent from across the river who don’t want a really long ride home afterward, I can be lobbied to change the destination.

Okay, here are the anxiously awaited details. Mark your calendars and set your clocks for our first Midnight Saddles ride of 2018. If you are planning to come, please reply on this thread.

    Friday, June 29, 2018

10:30 – Gather on the front apron of the Lincoln Memorial
    10:45 – Roll out – here’s the route
10:53 – Check out the Hirshhorn’s outdoor sculptures at night
Enjoy the streets and sights of DC with little traffic and with your late-night buddies
11:30-11:45 – Photo op at the National Cathedral
12:30ish – Arrive Kabob Palace in Crystal City
Eat, Drink and share tales of the night

    Wee hours – Convoy home

Notes: Midnight Saddles is a group social ride. We stay together and ride at a moderate social pace with occasional stops for photos or to enjoy sights and sounds.

If you are uncomfortable and concerned about getting home afterward, we will make sure that everyone has an escort or riding partner who would like one.

Definitely interested! But I have to see how I feel after a long work week that *could* finish up 70 miles from home. Hope I can…

P.S. Fantastic owl/bike graphic! Where did you find it?
