It doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to make it this time. My parents are going to be in the area so it looks like I’m headed out to Bethany Beach for the weekend.

    Midnight Saddles – Summertime Edition

Date: Saturday, July 8 (into the morning of the 9th)
Time: 10:30 gather; 10:42 photo; 10:45 wheels up
    Starting location: Washington Monument
Destination: The Diner in Columbia Heights
    Route: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1656042854
(note this route will take us on the brand new Klingle Road trail. Also note that mapmyride does not know it exists, so that section of the route is incorrect)
Fun Quotient: 2.6 times funner than Bicycle Fun Club and equally as fun as Bicycle Fan Club

Parts of this ride will be on dark trails (just like the Easter ride), so be sure to bring your good lights and have them fully charged.

I’m thinking about it, not sure yet because of other factors. One thing that would help me would be arranging for the option of company riding to/ from the ride. I’ll be coming from the Custis/W&OD intersection.

A ride home afterwards is probably the main thing – and will likely be easier to arrange, won’t it? But anyhow, if anyone would be willing, lmk. Only thing is….

I’m afraid I ride more slowly in the dark because of night vision issues – which is why I’ve never done one of these before…. So I have one voice in my head telling me it’s a dumb idea for me to come at all, and another saying, Come on, sounds like fun! Oh and my night vision isn’t gonna get better (I have pigmentary glaucoma, which
has a young onset – I was 26.) so what am i waiting for? Possibly better lights – that would make a difference. But riding with a group where everyone has lights helps light up the path too….

Come. I will be happy to escort you home. You will find riding in the group to be much easier than night riding than by yourself, due to the abundance of lights and the other bikes and people around you. We can ride down together, too, although that will require me to get my act together; I usually leave at the last second and have to zoom down to get there on time.

Anyone else who is on the fence because of concerns about getting home afterward, we will make sure everyone who wants an escort gets one.

And everyone will remember the time the family-friendly forum was used to advertise escort services. 😎

Even if you have a light setup that you have absolute *total* confidence in, it’s still safer and more fun to run together. The “safety in numbers” thing.

Can’t officially commit yet, but I’ll be coming from Columbia Pike.

Life is getting in the way of GRUSK so I may be around for this. If I go I’m happy to escort anyone who needs it back to FC and adjacent areas.

You’re only letting friends see the route + I can’t see the route + friend request ignored = you don’t want to be my friend.

;) Not sure I can make it, but if I saw the route, I might be able to plead a case… Can you make the route public, or let me be your friend for like a day?

same. i just did a friend request in map my rides too.

** Correction ** you can log in to Map My Rides, and then click on the link above – even if you’re not SteveO’s “Friend” it appears you can see the map/route. :)

I think he fixed it. Prior to my pleading for friendship, I was not able to see the map even when logged in. Either way, it’s good to go now (I alternately uploaded it here if you prefer RWGPS).

Thanks for setting this up, Steve-O!
