5120 Fairglen Lane, Bethesda. The proprietor expresses an interest in child development, but there are no books on the subject. It could use some.

Mini Library as it is called at H St NW and New Hampshire in Foggy Bottom. Contains mostly fiction and the occasional technical book including one on Pascal if anyone still programs in that language!

PASCAL! Wow . . . I think someone shortstopped that book on the way to the local used book sale donation bin! But who knows what might grab someone’s fancy?

Lovely and cheerful yellow library at 911 F Street, NE. All adult books in good condition. One book caught my eye “I Am An Emotional Creature” by Eve Ensler, author of the “The Vagina Chronicles”.

This LFL was built by a young man for Boy Scouts Eagle Service Project. It’s built into the side of a lovely tiled archway leading to St. Matthew’s “outreach garden.” They grown organic vegetables to help feed local families.

Just happened upon this LFL on the Greenbriar Pool Club’s property at the corner of Point Pleasant and Middle Ridge Road. Since it is across the street from Greenbriar East Elementary School it could really use more children’s books.

That’s very unique. Definitely thinking outside the box.

Little Free Library in the 1600 block of 11th Street NW DC near the Shaw skate park. I didn’t have my daughter cross the busy street for the photo op when I spotted this one, but she was there and was disappointed when I informed her it was an adult-focused selection. If our panniers hadn’t been full of books she picked out from the MLK Jr. Library, I might have been tempted to borrow the Bill McKibben book.

My personal goal for LFLs was to make it at least through January finding libraries by luck and memory, without consulting a website or map. Made it! Thankful for this challenge helping to make riding fun and thankful for a community that generously shares books in many places!

5710 Beech Avenue, Bethesda.
This one has children’s books, mystery, horror, and several other genres. It could probably use adult science fiction.

1/31/2022 – LFL

This one is located at 230 N. Jackson Street, in Arlington

It is a very small LFL, and had a good selection of adult and kid books stuffed in there, but I did leave a contribution of a Dr. Seuss board book.

I guess a small one allows for some control over contents? Thanks for leaving a book!

Wow – what a feat! Congratulations. And you’re right, the DMV is blessed with a plethora of LFL’s. I didn’t realize how much so until I was down here where most of them I find are associated with a school, on school property. The idea hasn’t really caught on well outside of that arena.

2/1/22: LFL charter #39709 has some racey titles!

Located on E Monroe Ave corner w/ DeWitt, across the street from CVS, in the Del Ray Hood of Alexandria VA.

The only children’s book I found on the top shelf was “Children’s Book of Virtues” by William J Bennett. Please stock with kids titles from Sesame Street by Big Bird for the kind of virtues our children need to learn!

This LFL was located on Fair Ridge Drive, Fairfax, in front of the Fair Ridge Swimming Pool and Club House. This library was built by a Boy Scout in 2021 for his Eagle Scout Project. The pool clubhouse is right next to a park and several playgrounds. The library only contained adult books so could definitely use a supply of children and middle school age books.
