This LFL at 16207 Redland Rd was so inviting like a house. It had two levels that had adult books upstairs and kids books downstairs. There was a framed poster, flowers and a warm note to read and sit on the shaded patio of the house overlooking the creek.

The house owners also offered fresh eggs! Will have to come back for that next time.

This one in the 7000 block of Braeburn Court in Bethesda is clearly not your standard design; I think it’s supposed to be a train car. It has children’s books and some rather heavy adult nonfiction. It could use more light adult fiction.

I think it’s a Sandcrawler from Star Wars. There used to be one on 15th St which also had a lot of children books but I haven’t been able to find it so guessing the family moved. Glad to see it in Bethesda instead of a Galaxy far, far away!

This is a typical LFL with eclectic adult titles below, and children’s shelf above, with the exception that the bottom shelf included baby care books with Russian titles. I need to get @serdar to help me with the translation!

Update at the conclusion of Week 3

Leading the pack OVER ALL for posting on time, with correct elements, and occasional extra points: Indiana
Leading the pack THIS WEEK for posting on time, with correct elements, and occasional extra points: Cathy M

The counts are VERY close though, so keep posting! I’m loving the variety of LFL’s you’re all finding. So sad when they’re inside a building or say for homeowners only. I don’t ding YOU though!

Here are the extra points this week:

CaseyKane – who doesn’t love bunnies?
    Boomer – needs cookbooks? Lol
Biker Jenn – vernacular? Of course you get extra points!
Sophie – Curious George makes me smile
    RobbieRob – such cute handles
    CathyM – 5 books!
    Red – 5 books!
    Brownws – Kid cyclist!
BikeDavid – extra points for making me laugh at sand crawler identification

I do see a continuous them of “Needs More Kids Books”. So starting today (1/25) for the next week, if you donate a kids book that you identify and is in the photo, you’ll get extra points! If you don’t have an easy stash of kids books to draw from, try visiting your local thrift shop. Anyone who does that, picks up books, and posts the details will get a HUGE extra boost! Let’s get those kids some books! (And if you have to ‘borrow’ some adult books in order to make room for kids books, that’s quite all right – you can donate them back to that thrift shop).

Thank you everyone for being so positive about finding these little jewels. I’ve come to realize how RICH the DMV is in literary resources for sharing. Not much of that here in the desert southwest where I am.

    Pedal On!

LFL in front of Oyster-Adams Bilingual School at the corner of Calvert and 29th St. Terribly lacking in children and young adult books! Presumably either English or Spanish since it is in front of a bilingual school.

LFL located on Argonne Avenue in Sterling. Love the butterfly color-coordinated bench, the bright paint and all the trinkets on the library.

I donated “Touch and Feel Baby Animals” to this Little Free Library shaped like a schoolhouse with a bell tower, modeled after the very first official Little Free Library. It’s located at 12th and Hamlin NE DC, directly in front of a daycare, so baby books are appropriate.
(I didn’t try to maneuver my bike to get a closer picture because I could hear the naptime music playing and didn’t want to risk a loud clatter right outside the door. Closer photo without bike is in Strava.)

This uncharted LFL is located at the Lincoln Park Community Center (357 Frederick Ave) in Rockville directly across from a playground, but it definitely needed more children’s books. So I donated a Hardy Boys mystery.

This library was built and installed by G. Thomas Knecht of Boy Scout Troop 62. He donated the Library on behalf of the Winter Park Public Library. It’s easy to find, outside of the Winter Park Train Station building, at the south end of the platform, facing the tracks. Well stocked with adult fiction and a few non-fiction, but only one children’s book, “The Bravest Dog Ever: The True Story of Balto.” Forgot to bring a book with me today.

I like this little library because it had three areas for books – on the left end was a shelf for tall books, and on the right were two shorter shelves. This one has absolutely NO children’s books, but I didn’t see the post about adding kids books until after I go home, so I’ll do that next time I go by.

Little Free Library in the 4800 block of Flanders Street, Kensington. This one is ALL children’s books. It could probably use some parenting books, so the adults could get a little help.

Rookie debut. Photo taken about an hour ago on Newark Street by local Giant at Cathedral Commons. Many books crammed in this particular library but not many that intrigued me. Settled on a book by David Brooks.
