ParticipantLFL on Oak Street in Herndon. This LFL is also used for seed exchange. This is large library and contained a lot of books because it is deep enough for books to be 2 deep in the library.

This little library was full to the brim with books, mostly children’s books, with no room to add any. Interesting features of this LFL include the dolfin shaped supports and the plexiglass window just above the LFL charter plaque.January 23, 2022 at 5:38 pm #1117523karenbikes2@gmail.com

A brand new LFL on Farm House Lane in Fairfax. It didn’t have any books when Red found it earlier in the week so he deposited some books in it on his last visit. I brought 5 books today. I had asked my husband for some books and did not pay any attention to the titles when I put it in my backpack, so I chuckled when I took one of the books out of the bag. Check out the title of the book I’m holding, “The Frozen Hours” by Jeff Schaara. It is a book about the Korean War, but the title was very appropriate for today (temp of 17 but feels like 5). The only thing my father would ever say about the Korean War was that it was bitterly cold.

Participant1/23/2022 – Little Free Library
N. Ivy Street at 6th St. North, in Arlington, VA, in front of the neighborhood church. This little free library usually has children’s books in it, and is set lower to the ground because of it. However, today it had mostly adult books, with a few children’s books, so I think that it needs MORE children’s books. I really like the bee and butterfly painted on the front, and the sunflower on the side.

ParticipantThis cute LFL can be found on Colony Road in Fairfax. Not only do they have a bench and decorations, but there is a container of sidewalk chalk. The library was so full that there is a box on the bench with more books.

Preschoolers helped build this Little Free Library near Two Rivers Public Charter School in DC, according to the plaque on the side. Here they are with their tools: https://eleducation.org/news/two-rivers-public-charter-school-pre-kindergarten-students-build-little-free-libraries
It could use more books for their age group. It did have a book I was thinking of purchasing, which I left for someone else to discover: “365 Days of Wonder.” It’s a companion book to the beautiful book “Wonder,” by RJ Palacio, which is written for middle grades but is a touching lesson in empathy for older humans as well. The one in the little Free Library contains 365 quotations about kindness plus a monthly kindness essay.
It made me think of that beautiful kindness activist who I learned about from Catedrew’s great post on this thread!

ParticipantGrace Church, 1041 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007. What this one is really in need of is repairs. The roof has a big crack in it, the wood is rotted, and the door has come off. However, as to books, this is clearly intended for children (child-appropriate artwork on both sides, located next to a Montessori school), but there wasn’t a single children’s book in it. It definitely needs some!

ParticipantFound this LFL on Broadwater Drive in Fairfax. I left my house with no planned route today so just happened to stumble on this library. It was crammed full of books. Loved the side windows.
